Title: Ariel trouble
Post by: LeedsLad on September 24, 2006, 10:55:09 PM
I wonder if some one could help me on this one. I\'ve just put a new head unit in the rex (FD) and the ariel won\'t come up. I know that it is connected as i can hear the motor going when the unit turns on but it doesn\'t move any ideas?

Thanks

Adam

Mines the same but has been for a couple of years. I\'ve been told that there is a plastic cog thats not engaging. This does seem to be a coincidence with you as it has only started after you changed the head unit.

I\'ve tried to get to the ariel a couple of times but given up, it looks like quite a mission to get down inside.

If you can wait a few days you can have mine for a tenner + P&P. I disconnected mine as I never use it and it was working before I disconnected it :)

I never listen to the radio, plus I\'ll get one of those interior aerials that I used to have on my old car. It just annoys me having the aerial there. It\'s already disconnected to stop it going up and down when the stereo is on :)

sorted it out it turned out to be the plastic coil that moves the ariel was broken away. I think a bit must of snapped off in the ariel itself as i couldn\'t get it to fix.....so i heated it up over the cooker and jamed it in, it fused in and all is well. I then took it back out heated it again and reshaped the end so that is bonded to about the 3rd section from the full extention so it extends to half hight. Personaly i think it looks much better and it doesn\'t make a ratchet noise now!:Hammer

Probedb - how do you disconnect it to stop it going up & down?

I caught mine on the garage door & it\'s bent, so doesn\'t work very well. Would be much better to be down all the time.

Thanks

unplug it,   either the feed wire from the stereo (fink its blue)  or at the ariel itself

tailz if you remove the jack, handle and chock you can see a blue plug into a white socket. Theres a little clip on the side push that in and pull it off. Job done

It\'ll be some sort of gromit, need to find out where to get them from tho! Not quite taken it out yet :)

In a couple of years when I can afford a kit it\'ll get welded and smoothed out.

Anyone fitted a Honda S2000 arial? lots of the Integra owners do this and it\'s a nice clean little arial.
