Title: One tub per rotor
Post by: Devil\'s Refugee on September 22, 2006, 09:57:00 AM
After reading about Gary abandoning his project car, just wanted to know how come no-one has approached this angle before ?

Is it R&D cost ? Are there many bespoke parts to be created ?
Could you do this with the stock twins ?

What kind of benefits over a non-sequential conversion or single would this bring ?

I read in a magazine a while back that a company had produced a motor (I think based on a Subaru or Evo block) which had 4 small tubs, one per piston. Still early days in development, but they had it on show.

Limited knowledge of the rotary engine means I\'m probably looking at this very simplistically, but would welcome some education :)

There\'s a handfull of home made twin-turbo RX7\'s in the states, you should be able to find the details by searching on rx7club.com. I think the major factor limiting the widespread application of aftermarket twins is the lack of space.....trying to squeeze two turbos, two wastegates and all the associated pipework into the RX7\'s already packed engine bay is never going to be easy. Plus you can achieve the same results much more easily with a large single trubo.

Could you run twin hybrids which would form part of a \'standard\' upgrade path non-sequentially and build on this ?

Some of the Scooby tuners are now using \'twisted\' turbo pipes to free up space in the engine bay, could this work with the Rex ?
Not having seen in the metal the engine bay of a Rex I can\'t really comment so forgive if some of these ramblings are p*sh :xconfused :flamed

I know a big single is the way to go for ultimate power for most applications, just seems a shame to lose the twin set up.

Do you mean uprate the original twins? I know there\'s a few companys that offer uprated twins although they are seriously expensive. Not exactly sure what they do to them as you\'re options are pretty limited, at least as far as altering the hot side is concerned due to their modular design. Think they fit larger compressor wheels and housings. It\'s still far from ideal tho as the tiny turbine housings must strangle the sh*t out of the engine at the top end.

This guy runs twin 2835\'s: - http://www.urbanracer.com/articles/anmviewer.asp?a=843&z=16

I think budget is the biggest constraint!

One of the big advantages the Yanks have is that the stearing and brake fluid is on the otherside, if you tried that install on a Jap car you\'d be in deep poo:D
B&R make an uprated set of twins which make some very usable power - I am looking for +440atw:eek: out of em - reports and dyno\'s to follow in the next month or so.

Wow, that\'s some machine. And so is the price for the works.....$87,000 !!!

John are you still running sequential with that setup or non ?

Keep me posted, definitely interested if you\'re running uprated twins non-sequentially and how it behaves boost wise

It is running and is quite a handfull, turbos are rated to 1.6bar, atm running 1.3 and that is tyre shreddingly quick, btw all the other bits are in place, when completed most likely engine and turbos will be up for sale to fund my orginal project.;)

Does it feel much different to a big single with the same power rating ?
I\'d expect you\'d be getting the advantage of less lag ??

You dont get the \'big hit\' that you get from the a big single it is much more progressive, running non seq. means the spool is a bit slower but you have 1bar @3.8k and 1.3 by 4.5k so its pretty good not that you have much time to look at the gauges:Laugh

Let me know when they are and how much you want:)  Trying to find some \'cheaper\' ways to get my project moving....

Title: I have a pair of singles on my FD
Post by: chris on September 28, 2006, 08:59:55 AM
I have a pair of single hybrid turbo’s fitted to my FD and is working well, there are a lot of problems to overcome fitting such a setup, the turbo’s that I have fitted are 12a Japanese turbo exhaust housing, with a turbo II compressor. Boost starts around 2800 rpm with full boost around 3500. The last time it was on a dyno I had 470fly, 400 at the wheels, at 1.2 bar boost, this was at least 2 years ago, before we knew much about the need for water at these boost levels and while chasing the illusive 500hp mark she blew on one of the last runs.

If you are looking to fit 1 turbo per rotor it is possible, you just need to select turbo’s very carefully for physical turbine housing size, you also need to be very inventive with your manifolds. I think the hardest part of the project is oil drain, as the drain from the top turbo lands directly on the exhaust outlet for the lower. If I was starting the project again I would probably go for a single, it is good to have something different, but it was one hecll of a pain in the arse

Why not ship this one from the states that\'s already been done

710rwhp with twin T04 turbos:mmmm , with the pound as strong as it is you\'d be a fool not to.....

Nice find there mate:D

Although, this kinda scares me a little:

Horsepower: 710whp....

Brakes...Front: Stock  Rear: Stock !!!!

A lot of yank shops use Dynojet chassis dyno\'s which are usually \'generous\' with their hp outputs.
