Trying to work out which is best; get the car trailered up or fly down and pick it up.
I\'m in Edinburgh, the car will be at RE:Worx getting mapped.
Approx. 450mls to drive, so given 95p odd for V-Power, average say £65 a tank, and with a car at around 300 brake, how many refuels will I need ?
Prob stick to the speed limit and it\'s all motorway driving.
Factor in I\'ll have a passenger to share the trip with, that\'s two tickets on SleazyJet at £100 a pop, train to Portsmouth, say £10 a pop from Gatwick.....
Getting it trailered and saving 450mls on the clock is looking more attractive by the minute !
Well think about the running in/testing of mods that will be done on the way back. :D
Fish
Mine runs 280rwhp and I commute on the M4 every day. I average between 15 and 16 mpg max.
That\'s £124.29 in my car or two tankfuls
Fish, that was the main attraction for driving it back :D
Andy, how many miles is that then ?
210 odd ?
You Should Get 150 Miles A Tank
You have to be sh*tting me, I drive that every day at the moment :eek
For Sale: one unused RX7......
If you take it VERY easy you should get more mile to the tank. The best I ever saw was 280 miles from the tank, but believe me that was a whole tank!!!!
It\'s mostly motorway driving, considering the costs (and I\'m sure I read somewhere that keeping it off boost at under 70mph will help) I\'ll be crawling to work and back now.
Need to get another job closer to home sooner than I thought.... :yes
Quote from: DC-TYPERYou Should Get 150 Miles A Tank
You should get a LOT more than that if its steady motorway driving, more like 230 - 250 odd.
I get 170 odd regularly, but thats a mix of traffic or fun, no economical stuff.
Ok, car not for sale now :rollin
I gotta say you must be on one hell of an income to even consider 150 miles a day in an FD :2eek
thats £200 a week in fuel easy....
I\'m a pimp :D
Wouldn\'t like to admit how much I get mate, for what I do it\'s shocking compared to more worthwhile professions like nursing :o
Partially why I want to leave the UK, the way people are paid according to their skills is all wrong.
Join the AA RAC, now, and get em to tow it back :)
What you get from a tank depends on when you decide to fill it up. I don\'t like to risk waiting for lights to come on as I don\'t have a choice of filling station once I\'m on the motorway so I tend to fill up slightly early rather than run the crud in the bottom of the tank through the engine.
So far I have had 226, 210, and 198.7 miles from a tank of fuel...all since buying the car a week last tuesday!!! A tank lasts me between two and three days.
That kind of mileage I can live with. Again, won\'t be doing the commute forever so I can live with the cost for a few months knowing it will come down, as well as the mileage (it\'s only done 23k mls so want to preserve the lower end of the miles for as long as possible for value purposes)
If you are in a similar job to me (Business Consultant) you will be on 40p a mile expenses. At the moment the RX is costing 30p a mile which includes some spirited driving once off the motorway :3gears-rh
I have had as little as 190 for a tank, and as much as 245 with a under a quarter left, don\'t no if there is a light but never risked it.
the 245 was all motorway cruising at under 3k revs.
Think i could of get a bit more out of the tank, but didn\'t want to risk it
I came back from london in mine recently and I filled up in londo at 105.9p and it cost 70 quid, I then stopped further up for another 60 quid and I got home to glasgow area with about a 1/4 tank.
Also I used about 160 going to silverstone and back the other weekend. And it would take you ageeees to trailer it back. Have you looked into getting someone to bring it back up? I got quotes and it was about 300 quid from london to glasgow, just google car delivery and similar phrases and phone about.
What car is it you have bought?
I could get 300 out of my tank easily, but that was mostly 50-60mph, A road commute.
I averaged 24mpg, I once saw 28mpg :)
\'95 Type RB :)
Should be at RE:Worx next week if they\'ve got a slot for a remap, then it\'ll be ready for me to collect.
From Portsmouth by trailer would sting me for over 500 notes :eek
Don\'t want anyone else driving it tbh for the first time.
Probably looking at 350 to collect it in person, so I guess this will be the best option so I can get to know the car on the way back too.
I think the "breaking down on the way home and getting towed home" option is cheapest. Especially as the AA/RAC would think twice about trying to fix it.
There must be a rotory specific component you could remove which would be undetectable by the AA/RAC.
Then you could drive as far as Birmingham and get towed the rest of the way!
The EGI relay ;) :)
+1 for a great idea :)
Ooh, that\'s proper evil :D
I do 60 ish miles a day. About 190 miles to tank.
devil i can get it picked up from re-worx and brought up to edinburgh for 100+vat
has to be garage to garage though.
i was going (might still)get my car taking down to pips then drive it back up.
You have PM mate
Does RE:Worx to my garage at home qualify LOL
:D
dont be such a pussy!! drive it and enjoy it!! and be sure and take the m6 toll!
:rollin !!
I brought my rex (\'99, stock except for aftermarket filters and exhaust) last weekend from way down south west london, i live in the midlands leicestershire to be specific i filled up down london with a full tank just to be sure £55 super unleaded (had about £5 maybe £10 already sitting in it) so doing the run home on £60 tank from M3, M25, M1 i used only about quarter of a tank, averaged my speed at about 80MPH worked it out after i got home think it was something like 24MPG. Keep it just under boost and you should be fine on 1.5, 2 tanks plus its ALOT cheaper trust me i priced up a flatbed etc and they are wearing stripy jumps they rob you. But i gotto admit even though i did it using only 1/4 a tank id have happily used a tank i had a blast driving it back plus considering it was my first rex i got the feel and fun of it - definatly recommend driving it especially if your a petrol head like myself.
