Hi
I\'ve just pulled the error codes from my FD and got the following:
05 - Knock sensor open or short
23 - Fuel thermosensor open or short
30 - Split air bypass valve open or short
39 - Relief 2 solenoid open or short
The knock sensor is fine, I think I know what\'s wrong with that. I had no idea the FD had a fuel temp sensor, but I\'m sure I can find it. The split air bypass sounds like it\'s something to do with air pump air control going down to the cat?
I\'m really mifffed about the relief 2 solenoid. I can\'t find it on the vacume diagram, and can only find one reference to it in a google search, which is just a repitition of the error code list anyway. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
The car originally had EGR, but the motor it\'s now got doesn\'t. I\'m running the original ECU and harness because the new one wouldn\'t fit the car. Damn blue connector was one row of pins too long!!! I was mad :Grrr
I have left the EGR solenoid connected.
The rev counter seems to have stopped working as well. I\'m sure it used to, but doesn\'t register a thing now. :2Confused
The motor starts and runs quite nicely. I ran her for a few mins before taking her out of the garage after the engine swap to check for leaks, and thought it wise to pull the codes.
can i just ask how u got the codes ???
Hi Mike
You can get the codes by putting a paperclip between the GND and TEN terminals of the Diagnostic connector (mounted on inner left wing). You then need to connect an LED in series with a 2K2 resistor from the GND terminal to the FEN terminal. Here\'s a little circuit diagram:
I _think_ I\'ve got the polarity of the LED right. It doesn\'t matter if you get it the wrong way round, it won\'t damage anything, it just won\'t flash.
You can then find the list of codes from:
http://www.k-rad.com/errcodes.html
Ignore what it says about it flashing the codes up on the MIL light on the dash - it\'s rubbish. The codes seem good, though. Make sure you count times when the LED is OFF as pulses, as it\'s on by default, and can get really confusing.
Hope that help. One thing you might be able to help me with... Would you mind tracing what part of the loom the knock sensor gets connected to, please?
OK. I got them.... Yes, I know it\'s 3:30 in the morning, but I can\'t sleep.
The Relief 2 Solenoid and Split air bypass valve bolt into the ACV, and seem to do something for the EGR. They are little pressure sensors by the looks of it.
Here\'s an interesting thing.... My two engines are different!! One has the holes on the ACV casting machined to accept these, the other doesn\'t. My new engine is the one that doesn\'t. Due to the engine loom from the new engine not fitting the car (blue connector - X-05), I had to swap looms. The new engine doesn\'t have EGR valve, and the loom didn\'t have the solenoid for it (yellow), so I added it to the rats nest when I plumbed in the new loom to stop it bitching. Wish I\'d noticed these two little sensors!!
Does anyone know if I need to plug them in? My assumption is that they are only required for EGR operation, and as it\'s not really there I shouldn\'t have to worry too much. BUT, will it go into limp home?
At the moment I\'m running the ECU that came with the car. Should I swap to the one that came with the new engine? It obviously isn\'t programmed for EGR, so shouldn\'t bitch about it. Maybe.. I have no idea if the connectors even fit, so I\'m just musing at this point.
Seems to run fine so far, though. Hope someone knows a little bit about this :2Confused
If not, then I hope the info is useful to someone in the future, and I\'ll keep posting info as I find out about running it like this. Wish me luck!!
I\'ve circled the guilty parties in red...
cool i might see if it shows up any problems with mine
I have that whole assembly including sensors if you like?
An update for future reference:
The FSM states that no sympoms should be noticed if these are found open circuit by the ECU. In other words, don\'t worry about it if you don\'t have them :)
The knock sensor and fuel thermo sensor are a bit mroe important, however.... could someone trace where the knock sensor wire attaches into the loom? I\'ve tried two, neither works. The connector for the power steering is the same! I\'m confuzled.
