Just been reading an interesting thread by Prof on air pump removal

Presumably the process of removing the air pump is slightly different for 1st gen rx7\'s or am I wrong? I have done a search for "how to\'s" on air pump removal but could not find anything specific to first gens. It seems a common theme amongst 2nd and 3rd gen rx7\'s is the need for a twin alternator belt pulley (although presumably a toothed Gilmer drive for the drive/alternator/water pump pulleys would be better though! but expensive!).
Can anyone offer any advice or instructions for removal of the air pump on the stock 12a engine/Nikki carb setup?? Would be a very useful thread to have as removing the emissions gubbins on these engines seems to be a popular basic improvement, especially in combination with a decent aftermarket exhaust setup.
Blow torch/anglegrinder/chisel, aparently?

Sorry, forgot to mention other emmisions stuff (solenoids, vacuum switches, air control valve etc), basically all the junk linked to the carb/air fliter/inlet manifold. Can these just be pulled off and blanked off?
Throw the airpump in the bin, blank off ACV, use headers for the exhaust (instead of the thermal reactor). Easy as that. You can keep the other stuff, to keep idle control etc. No need for twin belts, but very usefull though.
