Title: Thermal/ insulation wrapping
Post by: Devil\'s Refugee on September 18, 2006, 12:35:09 PM
Been thinking about getting some gear from here for the engine bay

Does it make a difference ?
Especially regarding a turbo wrap and intakes since they\'re polished alloy so would heaksoak from underbonnet temps.

I have a vented bonnet, so is it worth the expense ?

What are your mods?

I found with a standard twin turbo set-up that a wrapped downpipe reduced underbonnet temperatures nicely but wasn\'t a necessity. If you\'re single then I\'d say you NEED some of this stuff to stop things cooking around the turbo. I\'ve just spent £120 or so with these guys:

HKS Induction, full exhaust system, PowerFC. Still running the stock twins.
Was going to get some exhaust wrap and also for the induction piping. Seems a shame to cover them up since they\'re brand new :(

Personally, I\'d definitely go for exhaust wrap. Your HKS induction kit will pull air from the engine bay so you want temperatures in there as low as possible (although the vented bonnet will help). I don\'t think wrapping the intake pipes will make that much difference to be honest.

yes it does work, it is used quite extensively in aero applications and it is seriously expensive stuff if it is formed into complicated shapes
