Folks,
I have posted a similar message up on the Highway link.
I realise that you got up a real head of steam to help out Blitz Boy and we carried the link on http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk
One of our members on the Scorpio users club is having a similar sort of problem with Norwich Union, except in his case by the time the Fire Brigade had arrived he had been able to to put it out before it became a major blaze, however problem with the Scorpio is that loom/fuse box damage is big time expensive and NU don\'t seem to want to know.
Can I ask that if you get the chance to look at this link and want to pass it on that would be great. If you are a member of other motor type sites can you post a link on so that their members insured with "QUOTE ME HAPPY" can check the terms with their brokers?

Problem for Ashley is that his brokers are the RAC and NU are part of the same company.
If you can help thanks for it!

Didn\'t know that about RAC and NU - seems their might be conflict of interest there.
what is up with insurance companies!!!!!!, fire damage is fire damage!!!
And the guy is disabled!!!!! fduking insurance companies!!!!
He should take it to the Obudsman straight away , this is disgusting way to treat a person with disabilities who did a brave thing and put the fire out himslef therefore limiting how much the insurance company would have needed to pay out in the first place.
Not going to insure myself with the Norwich Union seeing as they have sacked 5000 people in this country to give jobs elsewhere in other countries
you should edit the title of the thread with Norwich Union in the title
Thanks Blitz Boy, edited thread to name Norwich Union

And an update from Ashley
" HI Geoff and all ,even at this time I would like to think that this is some sort of glitch at Norwich Union, however I don’t think so. I have involved the Financial Services Ombudsman and a letter fro Norwich Union around 10 days ago confirmed the FSO, had been in touch with them, all it contained was a statement from them saying the Financial Ombudsman had contacted them and they were going to look into the matter.
That’s the first and last I have heard from them, despite a letter to the chairman / chief executive and an email to the same person. Still nothing, not even an acknowledgement that I had contacted him. Listening to other peoples comments on here It seems as if its not a one off I can only hope this situation is resolved soon as sitting in the house without any means of transport is beginning to get me down.
On a brighter note Radio 4s” You and Yours” has appointed a reporter to see if they can do anything, so once again many thanks to you and all who have read and acted on my behalf its good to know that people do care. I am always open to any more suggestions. Thanks again to all. Ashley"
Looks like this has got a lot further to run...Thanks for the help and encouragement people have been giving.
And please pass on the word
Geoff
They have to respond back to the FSO with in ten working days I believe, then the FSO will make a judgement
Fresh news from Ashley
" Hi All Great News My insurance broker (who have also been fighting my corner) telephened me a couple of minutes ago to say NORWICH UNION are going to settle my claim as a total loss.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank one and all for helping and advising me on this matter, I am in no doubt without the help of you all and this site I would not have won them over. I cant express my gratitude enough to every one concerned. Please be kind enough to place a message on the other sites you all have mentioned Standing Together David Has Beaten Goliath Again.!!!!! The Victory is yours. Ashley "

I agree Blitzboy. Sadly there seems to be a worsening trend. Anyway another good result ultimately, but a lot a hassle and stress along the way.
A representative of the Association of British Insurers said today that motorists should expect a substantial, across the board, increase in premiums to address the widening gap between revenue and costs. (Associated with uninsured drivers, NHS charges and the escalating level of claims etc.)
In a recent booklet the ABI reported that approx £30 of all current premiums is already allocated to covering losses from uninsured drivers.
BTW: How do you spot good quality insurance?
Perhaps via a thread listing companies that have made good their promise without a campaign being mounted to force their hand? That should not take up too much bandwidth should it. :)

Something just doesn\'t quite add up here!
On the Police, Camera, Action type programmes you constantly hear senior police officers brag about the amount of uninsured drivers they\'re catching thanks to new technology (yabba, dabba, doo!) and taking wrecks off the road!?
NHS charges!? That\'s like buying tickets to an Open Day! NHS is free! Apart from the ambulances, they try and make you pay for that if your at fault...
Then lastly the widening gap between revenue and costs!?
Hell we\'ve been privvy to 2 big name insurers trying to wangle their way out of 2 valid claims! Heavens knows how many they\'ve successfully wangled out of!
I take back all what I said about Russia in the 70\'s & 80\'s...
Apparently, the government changed the rules and the NHS can now, in certain circumstances, charge insurance companies for care services necessitated by motor accidents. Treatment remains free at the point of delivery...the bill comes later
Premiums have apparently already been increased to reflect this possibility but seemingy not by enough to satisfy the voracious predators in the insurance industry. Either that or motorists are cunningly conspiring to have the big accident before their renewal is due and a price rise can be implemented for their next year\'s cover. Some people eh?
Jeez, guys come on.
If the Manu fans can start their own, VERY successful football club (FC United), what will it take for a bunch of Motorists to start an insurance company?
