I\'ve not had my 1987 Rx7 long, but I\'ve noticed what looks like an extra pipe at the back of the car. It\'s clearly not connected to the exhaust system. Any ideas on what it is? Also mine\'s pretty rusty. What\'s the impact of it not being complete? Cheers. :cheers
got any pics?
Thanks for the swift reply. Not to hand on my car, but if you check out the Rx7\'s for sale on //www.autotrader.co.uk, there\'s a black second gen where the pipe is clearly visible. On this car, the pipe looks complete.
if im right - its about 1 inch diam ??
its part of the emmisions system - and my EGI didnt have one ( after market system )
you will be hard pushed to find an EGI with one still on
ta
stu
Mine still had one until about 2 weeks ago, and yep, part of the emissions gear
Thanks for all the replies. It\'s comforting that there\'s nothing too sinister in not having a complete pipe. I guess there\'ll be no problems come MOT time if many don\'t have them too. Regards, David. :Thumbs-up
I have an 88 Gen 2 and the third pipe is still on attached to the exhaust system. I gather talking to other owners and reading up it was an something to with the emmisions trying to get hold of one now is like rocking horse you no what. Not sure how much it will affect the MOT with it though??
like i said - my EGI didnt have one and it sailed thru the MOT :D
Its connected to a reactor. Burns the unburnt hydrocarbons in the engine at low rpms. Had one on my EGI. If you remove the reactor and line you get slightly better fuel economy and slightly worse emissions. Line is usually rusty.
It\'s not part of the MOT, all the manuals I have show the American spec. where the pipe goes straight down. Mine fell off some time ago, no problem with mot and anyway now matches the american spec.
