Hi all,
after much lurking and questions here and there I\'ve taken the plunge and a wee bit of a risk and got a montego blue R2, it\'s got about 52000 miles on the clock so if I see 8000 miles out of it I\'ll be happy.
The main thing I was looking for was that it started well, from cold the engine will turn once and then fires up. Starts no problems hot, I\'ve not tried the start it cold and then turn off and start again... Probably will flood the engine ;) Also the body looked straight, no dings or replaced panels, the inner wings are all straight so I thought sod it, take the risk ;)
It\'s got a HKS turbo timer and that\'s about it, so a nice starting place.
Rear pads need replacing about now (price drop ;) ) and the rear shocks are on their way out, bit bouncy bouncy (again, price drop), so can I get some pads cheap to get me on the road? I can probably get a bit of a discount on Performance Friction pads, but that\'ll take a wee while to find out.
Also any suspension going until I decide what to go for, track work (just trackdays mind) and road really.
Final little thing, the boot lid over 60 mph starts squeeking like mad, like it\'s loose on the catch, I\'ve looked for the rubber mounts at the side but they don\'t adjust at all, any tips for getting it to fit a bit tighter?
I\'ll get some pics up today once it\'s been cleaned! :D
Nice one - hope it all works out for you. Not every engine goes pop at 60k miles but always keep the budjet just in case! :yes
That\'s what I\'m hoping! But I\'ll have the budget set aside (savings made from hanging up my full time racing helmet should help ;) )...
...Looking forward to having a tinker!
Also first thing I really do need is a Power FC! Monitoring of what\'s going on and nothing like having a proper ECU :D
Ah, and a boost gauge... BTW, this is my first Turbo car, I\'ve always been purely NA in my life so far :D
All the best with it bud!
Just out of interest what did it cost you (if you don\'t mind me asking)?
Sounds similar to mine and so would be interested in what worth mine is J reg though.
Happy Motoring :burnout
Cheers! Just got my mate on his way over in his Trevor to check it out ;)
Mines on a M plate, late 94 but cost me about 4.5k... Bit of a risk involved but what the hell, it how I\'ve alwasy purchased cars, needing some work and end up spending more just from adding bits on! One day I\'ll learn!
Well, after a quick rinse, here it is!

Ooh, what did you race? and recently retired - you wouldn\'t happen to have a Germain accent would you :Thumbsup! only kidding!

Would that be a TVR then? :D
Car looks pretty good :cool
Looks good mate love the colour :cool
Might be silly question but what is that spoiler as it looks awesome and understated which I prefer to these big aftermarket ones.
Much planned???

Cor I wish! It was just old Mk1 MR2\'s, very cheap racing really... As far as racing goes! Once the car is sold at the end of this season it should have only cost me a few £k... well worth every penny! But I think I\'m going to just enjoy a few trackdays next year and then hire a car for a few races as well, but not be in the full championship.

4.0 Litre Chimera, very nice car, but wasn\'t working for about 3 weeks when he first got it! Oh how I laughed ;) Still, the RX7 feels a bit nuttier somehow, the turbo kick is just different to NA power.
The spoiler has a Mazdaspeed sticker on the back, so I don\'t know if it was an option at that time of purchase... I like it, nice but not the full GT affair which I\'m not too keen on personally.
Really just want to get it handling as it should, so new suspension, braces for the ARB\'s, harness\', decent track friendly brake pads, then ally AST and basically everything to get it track reliable, don\'t really crave any more power for now and hopefully should stick with what I\'ve got powerwise (you never know tho\'!)
Also need to get an alarm / immobiliser fitted... Any recomendations? I did read about not getting it splied into the ignition wires, how should I ask the installer to do it? Looks like the turbo timer is wired into the key ignition but as that\'s a seperate circuit it\'s OK right?
congratulations on the purchase:Thumbs-up my rx7\'s been the first turbo car i\'ve had and damn it\'s addictive. the colour nice and like the rear spoiler(i thought it wasn\'t a standard rx7 spoiler as it\'s different to mine).
having a car that got faults is a good thing in my opinion as anything that broken or worn will get replaced with uprated performance parts:D
Cheers guys!
Had a SC Mk1 MR2 but that wasn\'t as good as the NA IMHO... Just my thoughts...
But this is seriously quick! Me likes :D
I\'d have looked at getting better suspension anyway, so that\'s no drama\'s... But yeah, I do like the spoiler, could it have been a MazdaSpeed option in the past?
As for the squeaky boot, it\'s a common problem.... most solve it by wrapping some electrical tape round the catch-hook.
Welcome!

I think your\'s looks a little bigger! Ooo-er!
Still, 4.5 for a car with a lady attached isn\'t too bad, after what price can you put on the human soul? ;)
