Title: Power to instrument cluster
Post by: dr3 on September 14, 2006, 08:28:03 AM
On my way to work this morning my speedo suddenly died and lost all power to the rest of the instrument cluster. (FD3S)
I presume it\'s a fuse but I\'m not sure which one and seeing as its in such a fantastic place and the floor is wet today I thought I\'d just ask one of you knowledgeable guys. Any Idea what amp it is aswell?

Cheers

I\'ve found the blown fuse, it\'s number 9, one to the right of centre which is a 15 amp. It seems to have cut power to all the dials, windows and rear wiper. The trouble is that every time I put a new one in and switch the ignition on it blows straight away, I\'ve tried disconnecting the window switch in the door and the rear wiper, but it stilll blows.
I\'m not too sure about how to check the wiring for the speedo etc.
It did rain extremely hard on Wednesday night, but I can\'t find any damp anywhere.
Also does anyone have a guide to what fuses do what for a 1993 Jap import as I only have a US manual which is pretty different.
Any ideas guys?

I would change all the small fuses with new ones even the ones in the engine bay...not long had the same problem, new fuses did the trick...:yes

All good thanks apart from this electrical fault!

Laeeq
I\'ll try that when I get some more fuses mate, sounds a bit odd though, I can\'t understand how that would do anything.
I\'ll keep you posted.

Cheers

well, these cars are now getting older and some of the fuses may have been in there ever since and im sure these fuses must have certain life to them after which they may need changing.

I had a same problem soon after the rain and it blew one fuse and then followed by another and so on....there could be other things but atleast your car will have brand new set of fuses in there....;)
Title: Fuse Blowing

Hi all just joined tonight :)

Re- Fuse blowing,
Best way to check is unplug all the parts the fuse relates to, when it stops blowing you can then concentrate on that part,

you could also check the wiring going through the tailgate(if ur model has one, not too sure :) )

p.s  Dont be tempted to put higher amp fuses in, or u`ll cause more trouble

Mick, I tried that one straight away, the only thing I haven\'t done is taken the instrument panel off and disconnected the power to that, so I\'d guess thats where the problem is. The trouble is, if it is something to do with the instrument panel (gauges) the fault is going to be such a pain to find.
Any way, should keep me out of trouble for the next few evenings!

Thanks for your help

What does that fuse control ?    Cant see the speedo causing it,  you know how to test for a short using a bulb ?
