Due to the fact that I fitted an early small port 12a to my elford I have been on the look out for a scrap gen 1 late model to aquire a decent correct tall port engine, then I can use the rest of the scrap car for some bits. bla bla etc.. I found a c reg on ebay last week, bought it for £104.00, great, worth a risk at that, it had been broken into and the steering lock was bust, no tax or mot, emailed the people and they said they had lost interest in it. went to collect it first thing this morning at Loughborough, didnt really look at it while i spoke to the owners daughter and paid over my money. Loaded it onto the trailer and thought ,doesnt look bad. got it home, looked a bit more, had a poke around, washed it, looked at it again, polished it, there\'s nothing wrong with the bloody thing, The only item I can see for the MOT is a rear drop link has come adrift, about a 15 minute job. never been welded, and is very solid. lots of new bits... interiors abit worn....... whats that all about ???? there goes all my plans for an engine swap then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I booked it in for an MOT on Friday,
What elso am I supposed to do. albans home for the elderly rx7\'s
You could sell it to me (lol). Its a really good find. If this is a better car are you going to keep the gold one too ?? Did look quite good on ebay, I think the broken into and some broken bits put people off.
Shaun
No way!! Must keep my eye an ebay more often!!!

Don\'t listen i\'ll have it :p
Shaun
Well first off I will mot it, then I will tax it at the end of the month, I will get some use out of it as I have not used a 12a n/a before, it will also give me a chance to clock some miles up in it so I can compare to the Elford, also see what the steering is like as it is a ser3, there is no more play than with the earlier car, most of the system looks fairly new..
Well enjoy it buddy :Thumbs-up . If you come to one of the mascarat meet any chance you can take me out for a ride in it to see what they run like.
Shaun
Wow, thats a steal, nice one. Would be interested to hear how you think it drives compared to the Elford. I\'ve still got a complete Elford turbo unit gathering dust at home. I reckon you should put a triple rotor in it with all that money you\'ve saved :yes
Nice one, if you need any bits for it give me a shout
Mark
you lucky sod
matt
Bloody hell you are a lucky git!!! that looks like a crackin wee car mate. nice one. Hope mot goes through no bother for you.
cheers, michael.
Got new fuel filter and oil filter yesterday so fitted those and replaced the oil, plugs and air filter on its way today. so I though I better check it runs ok today and fit the plugs and airfilter, put fresh fuel in etc ready to take it for the test at 4.30pm it was a bit kangarooy last time i took it out, but the fuel was old and low also the filter looked dirty , but realised last night 8.45pm that the test was at 8.30 am. Had to rush out get some fuel, and then hope for the best and that it ran ok and didnt brake down... Anyway no probs at all, advisers on 3 of the tyres which are low but still legal.
Views on the drive. starts fine hot and cold, just a bit tricky with the screw driver key. ticks over lovely and smooth and it is very different to the elford, power delivery is progressive and actually faster than it feels. The elford is very lazy and pulls hard from low revs, where this one you have to change two gears to get the power. it is a much smoother ride and a bit quieter, there is a little transmission noise in the first 2 gears, more so when hot but nothing serious. Steering, not as bad as i was expecting from all the talk of other gen 1 ser3 owners, there is a little more play, but not a lot, the most noticeable thing is the box centre position is slightly one sided, so turning right does not have much slop, but it is all on the turning left side, if the steering joints were adjusted so it was central it would be as good as the elford..
So thats the end of that tail.. Charley has first dibbs on it, he maybe needs a bit of encouragement to temp him into rx ownership from you lot..but if he decides its not for him then if anyone else wants a straight, very solid and presentable gen 1 with a bit of interior work necessary, its here in my yard. or it will go on ebay..
i know for a fact that shaun will want it :D
lets see what charlies says eh ??
Stu
Yes please, after all you did out bid me on ebay !
If charley doesn\'t want it tell me how much you want and i\'ll see what i can do.
Shaun

No problems there, I have fitted the new plugs and the air filter now. plugs were very clean that came out. I will try to get the wheels off over the weekend and have a look at the brakes, they performed excellently on the rollers, but it has locking nuts with no key, CAn\'t sell it like that. need to know how worn the pads are, and splash some greese about..... i will keep you informed
Quote from: mpk490pNice one, if you need any bits for it give me a shout
Mark
Thanks mark, there will be a few bits needed, I need 4 wheel nuts for a start????
what type of locking nuts are they?
i have a extractor for just that job
set of nuts should be fine
Mark
Allan, post up a pick if you can of the locking nuts as I have a spare key left over from a car ages ago. Its a long shot but someone might have one for you?
cheers, michael.
Thanks, but I have removed them now, The amount of people who loose the keys is astounding.... I must do about 3 out of 10 cars i work on. just a bit if a chisel, and then big hammer and a 16 or 18mm socket, they soon come off... I just need 4 standard nuts now if you have any..
Ok.. an update on the black car. I spoke to Charlie yesterday, he has decided he wants a more \'normal\' car as he need one every day. and cannot justifiy having another one with his other projects, so thats fair enough. If anyone out there is still interested then let me know. I will update on what I have done. It has 12 months MOT, I have serviced it, new plugs, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter. I have removed the locking wheel nuts,I have found some normal replacements, I have not had time to look at the brakes, i will service them and replace anything that needs doing over the weekend. So that is where it stands. the ignition lock is all bust but I just use a screw driver, I am on the lookout for one but no luck so far. the colum surround is also bust, the door pockets hace been cut for some reason, the centre consule lid is loose, apart from that it is fine.... Not sure what it is worth, I have about £400 in it now, so I suppose offers around £500 ... If you want to come and have a look it is well worth it.. just let me know.. If not It will go back on ebay......
I would love to own this car !!!!!! As said i\'ll be definately interested in it. Is it a car i can use for everyday commuting (on lpg) ??? Would you take 450 for it, would have to raid my savings but sounds well worth it !
Shaun
Shaun. come over and have a look, at least then you can see for yourself, I am busy tomorrow morning prob till after lunch, but should be around after that.. you cant really go wrong at that price with the general condition of the thing, even the rear axle brake pipes have been replaced with genuine mazda metal ones I noticed the other day. I will be looking at the brakes when I get back tomorrow.........I can also tax it at extra cost if anyone wants that doing...
Im taking my 3rd gen in in the morning to get the laser alignment sorted after the syspension mods. I\'ll probably sorn it anyway until i can get the lpg kit plumbed in.
Could you pm me your home address and i\'ll try and pop up to have a look. Would you be at home sunday, may have a run up.
