not much is being said/posted in the last few days, so i will start a thread which will prob get a fair bit of responce.
i was reading a post elsewhere that a large number of people have probably also read, but if you are one that hasnt then this is a warning.
be careful what you say on forums as it can come back and bite you in the arse.
Apparently insurance companys spend time trawling through forums :Typing and there for might be able to find a few people they insure.
therefore if you dont list mods and state them on a post etc they can find out.
if you under estimate power increases and post up a true print out, they could find out.
there are plenty of other examples
if such things were found out it could/would invalidate your insurance.
this is and was a true eye opener for me, i didnt think this sort of thing was possible (nieve i know). but i know for a fact if my insurer wanted to find me it wouldnt be hard as i have posted my number plate up plenty of times.
i dont know if this has been said before but like i said just a word of warning. this has happened to others on this forum. not trying to scare anyone, but useful to know in my opinion.
good advise that buddy. Bit scary tho, good thing for me there are 14 other red rx7\'s in my village and they all are members here! (figure that out mr insurance man!):wiggle
or be like me lol!! and keep posting how standard your engine is!!
Technically it\'s impossible to enforce.
They\'d have to prove that it was you logged in and using your account at the time the post was made. Your IP address is meaningless, they\'d have to have evidence that you were actually sitting typing the post.
This has already been successfully used as a defence against the RIAA in the USA when they tried to sue someone for downloading music.
how about be honest and list all your mods that way u dont have to worry..why is it we think its ok to con the insurance company and then cry foul when they try not to pay out..play the game ad list ur mods if u want to be covered.sorry for being a bore
kind of have to agree with the above - I am going through the process of reinsuring now, and want to make major mods to the engine / suspension - it\'s going to mean paying another £200-£300 a year, but the insurer will allow further mods as long as I let them know ahead of time.
Seems fair to me, and more over, if anything happens I get the money back for my mods as well as the base car, on a \'like for like\' basis.

what insurance comapny do you work for? :rollin
this is exactly what a member on this site did but yet they are still fighting the insurance company 3 months down the line.
i am just saying be careful. i am doing some engine mods and fitting some wheels and i have had to change my insurance company as my current one would not allow me to do that. however it dont seem to be that easy.
and i am sure not EVERYONE on here as listed everything.
like someone stated else where how far do you have to go on listing everything, if you change your pads to a brand. black diamond for instance and you hit the back of another car. what is to stop them turning round and saying you have aftermarket pads on the car that they didnt know about and that is why you couldnt stop in time. doesnt matter that they are better, it seems insurance will do anything to get out of paying up.
i totally agree with prof and rx7veilside. But it is sneaky of insurance companies to go looking through website in the effort of geting out of paying for a claim. Look at Blitzboys efforts!
Also people could be writing complete rubbish, I\'ve got 3 t88 turbos on my rex! and it flies! Goes 98 mph backwards and can made seagulls poo themselves at 3.6 miles from the noise alone! See! (ps it\'s all true, in MY mind!)
well i wasnt going to name anyone but at least someone knows what/whos claim i am talking about

:Thumbsup! pretty much what I was going to say!
see i can semi see where the brake thing is coming from with insurance company....when you fit aftermarket pads, you are changing the operating envelope of the braking system (whereas with OEm, you might have a temp range of say 50-150 deg C, by fitting supposed aftermarket brakes, you more than likely change the temp range and so within certain ranges (say too cold for example) you might not have as effective brakes....
This has been going on for years, insurance companies also go to photo graphic companies and go through the track day photos.
Already been said be honest with them about all mods then if in Blitzboys case you get stung they will have no leg to stand on when it goes tits up for them. Dont delcare and the motorist becomes the vilan, and then you also have no leg to stand on.
Top tips
Alway declare all mods
Always obscure number plates when posting on forums
Always remove number plates when doing track days
It has been known for insurance bods to be at track days as spectators, because they know mmodont take plates off the cars thinking that they will obscure them when posting.
For once insurance companies having access to forums actually worked in my favour. Someone smashed into my old uk sunny gti-r. I had it up for sale at the time. The car was written off and I was offered something stupid like £1.5k. I pointed the insurance dude to my ad on the gti-r club and two other uk sunny ads and he agreed to the 5k asking price of the car. Sweet!
Shame they didn\'t investigate the idiot that crashed into me. He is forever posting about his races and carpark antics on the 200sx club. He was being a pillock at the time of the accident too. Still fighting liability 18months on and I have 3 witnesses to his none. :2Mad

if this was the case how come this \'case\' hasnt been settled yet?

I believe they have agreed to pay now.
My point is that if you dont tell them and get caught then you cant fight it with any legal body and expect to win.
If you have been totally upfront and they welch on the claim you can have your own thread for the world to see, write to the ombudsman and even take to court.
Had Blitz lied he would never have been paid and how would he of been able to fight the insurance company.
If you dont list all mods then you have to be prepared to take the chance that if insurance companies dont pay you have no choice but to walk away.
It aslo means that all the time insurance companies know guys are not declaring then its there excuse for being utter b8rstards
good i am all legal then isnt it :yes :Thumbs-up
thats why i changed my insurance company last week, cause my dad thinks that insurance would be able to tell the difference between stock twins and a T70/ VMIC/ etc
and when i put my suspension on then i will tell them and so on. i will prob just have to pay out some more for the privilage (hopefully not)
lets face it though i am third party and my car is only insured for what i paid for it. that i think is about half the value of the engine mods i am in the process of doing (which they know about). all insurance is doing is making me legal to drive it really. if something did happen i dont really expect to be able to build the same car again. INSURANCE IS A JOKE
Insurance is a joke and it is not regulated in anyway which favours the insureie, most young people like me cannot effectively use an rx7 as a every day car due to the fact it is not a economical car so will have something else as a runabout meaning we can insure our car in the summertime as rotary-art posted the other day every car is now going to have to be insured regardless of wether or not it is going to be driven. The UK is now a joke to live in.

My insurance company said they\'d cancel my cover if i kept the snap off wheel, would you rather have a nikd car or not declare it! I have a cage aswell, so im not covered insurance wise anyway! At the end of the day Id rather be safe then be dead...
A friend of mine was almost killed 2 weeks ago when he was t-boned at a dual carriageway junction...He was hit at over 80mph! The fire department had to cut him out of the car!!! They said the cage saved his life!
As for this forum stuff, a guy on SOC was found to have extra mods that he hadnt declared that they found on the forum. They traced him back because he had posted his real name and address in the for sale section!
this is the thing if "someone used my loggin in which i am sure they did, :p and posted my number plate etc then that is a fairly big give away for my insurance company to think it is/was me posting" even though it might not be and wasnt.
Its the "Old Bill" you have to look out for now too. I have heard that at meets they take pictures of your car and contact insurance companies to check that mods ie. alloys, bodykit, have been declared.
First thing you know about it is when a letter comes through the door and your policy has been cancled for not declaring them. :(
right that is it i will not post any more or take my car out of the garage either!
b*ll*cks to that. i am legal, but i will watch what i post (not that i think i could incriminate myself but you know, worth bearing in mind)
One thing to note where mods are concerned is that the 3rd party liability (which is the legally required part of insurance) is not impacted by undeclared mods etc.

Amazing the police have so much time and enthusiasm to do this. Heard about the crash for cash scam, where guys deliberatly pull in front of you and cause you to hit them and then claim inflated repair costs and personal injury etc etc. Insurance companies know it goes on and are trying to identify the culprits.....Police???? Not interested.

So they won`t cover a cage???? Thats stupid as hell. Cage reduces damage, damage reduces personal injuries, less personal injuries reduce payouts!!!! Bunch of ****ing monkeys:Nono!
How about on the agreement when you sign up to mazdarotaryclub. you cant join if you work for a insurance company? wont stop them but not being able to search would make things a hell of a lot harder
i do my insurance backwards then - i have all the mods listed - but havent fitted them :D
the guy suggested this and said there wouldnt be a problem with it
saves hassle when you add things thru the year
Stu
That\'s what I am doing Stu - then you can just get on with stuff and not feel guilty about it !
Looks like it\'s going to be pricey though :(
mine wasnt tooo bad to be honest
jsut dont know whats gonna happen when i add the new wheels , FMIC , headlight vent ( :D ) , single exit 4inch exhaust

apparently it will lead you into a false sence of security. that is there view behind it anyway.

But what if your mods include (say) fitting ceramic brakes and the insurers discover they had not been fitted at the time of the accident. They might have a problem with that!
