please help i have just put down a deposit on a 93 rx-7 jap import from a garage in uk have been told it is a 2.7 twin turbo but today i have heard the garage can be mistaken with there engine sizes i would hate for it to only be the 1.3 anyone help me out with ways to find out as not that tech minded? i could just be me being worried as on steering collum is a duel turbo timer wired in
The 3rd Gens are all 1.3 they are classed as 2.6 for insurance and sometimes tax purposes.
It\'s to do with how the rotery engine performs in relation to a piston engine.
Can\'t explain it too well myselft but there are other threads on this.
Dave
ok have that sorted how do i know if it has twin turbo or are all box standard twin turbo , also anyone know of a good place near hertfordshire/uk to get engine possible checked or is there just no telling how long rotary will last ?
They are all twin turbo. To be honest, I suggest you just do some reading around, this site is a good place to start, as you appear to know very little which is a bit worrying considering you have just bought the car!!!
I know I wouldnt pay good money for a car to then worry about the engine on it.
Cheers

but on the other hand yer damn lucky to of put a deposit on a pucker car i/we can only hope it is now a decent example otherwise u may end up cursing it  As already recommended get some research done c/o this & other sites then if yer still after a bit more advice i\'m sure someone local can point u in the right direction or enlighten you to any potential problems.
Si (+fingers crossed;))
may we/i inquire as to where you have bort it from? Presuming it\'s not a rortary specialst (since they ballsed up size of engine  ) maybe cunning to get it checked out @ sum1 that does specialise.....

plenty of london (OK it\'s a big place) based experts thou ;)

thanks for help , i just saw the car fell in love with it paid the deposit pick it up next week and am now panicing guess i am scared of being happy . have already looked into a set of 19in rims and am thinking about the veilside kit just for a bit of added horn but i guess should look at getting the engine modded was thinking of stage 2 to start anyone know if the company doing the stage 2 will be able to tell if i have a dog . was going to pay for an inspection but they want £170 , even dick turpin wore a mask
hard to tell wot level yer on about from my (ignorant) point of view but even stage 1 which on many cars is just wacking a full decat & induction kit is a slightly more full on experiance in a FD & if you dont wana blow the arse out yer engine i would advise you speak with someone who is experianced with modding FD\'s reliably & at a realistic expense ;)
Cheap mods are easily done but it\'s much cheaper having sensible well thought out & realistically more powerful mods in the long run IMO ;) (in the right hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Si
what i\'m trying to say is which company is offering to do what for what? ;)
Si
PS so far i have no roatary experiance but best general test is compression test to see how much life left in yer engine but £170(http://burns.thefinaldimension.org/contrib/blackeye/Eyecrazy.gif)
Depending on where you are in Hertfordshire, Rotechniks in Reading might be the closest.
Not sure why you want to hit it with major performance mods straight away, stock it is more than a little quick, with not much out there able to keep up.
Any power increases needs to be done carefully as well as the rotary engine is more fragile to badly done work, and then starts to get expensive.
There\'s plenty of information on here about what people have done to tune their cars - get used to your new baby first, discover the fact it is already a very very fast car, and then start budgetting to get it done properly ;)
the engine is 2.6 twin rotary, so x2 1.3 = 2.6
I think that it is 2 X 654cc = 1308cc
The 2.6 thing is a way of comparing it to a piston engine, I think that the 2nd Gens are classed as 2.4 litres although it is the same engine size but it is worked out using a different (earlier) calculation.
Please correct me if I am wrong!
Dave
the car comes with a rolling road print out is 251 bhp at 96 mph does this sound about right ? car also have supra looking spoiler on it could hang your washing on it .
251 BHP @ fly wheel is about right.
If you\'re dead set on this car then the £170 for a full check-up is worth it. Whatever they do must include a rotary compresion test. A noram test for a piston engined car won\'t work properly.
People on here will be able to tell you what healthy compression would be. Did the vendor say who/where/what would eb covered in the check-up? A test by someone independant is preferable.

bring it along to the Hatfield meet in december mate!
don\'t worry about hanging ya washing on ya spolier, you can have a picnic on mine! :D
make sure you run it on optimax fuel minimum. unless you happen to have a uk version...which isnt likely, uk spec has no rear seats but leather and sunroof.
ok will do that it doesnt have a sun roof but has a black suade seats i pick it up next friday 28.11 so will be able to get to hatfield on the 7th no problem will you guys be all in the same place ?
yeah mate, see the http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2892 (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2892) for details :}
Not that this is particularly relavent (only marginally as there has been some discussion on engine capacity!) I got mine registered as a 1.3. with the DVLA. Cheap tax!!!:D :D :D :D
