I have just purchased a fd-3 type r 1992 with a full engine rebuild and im well chuffed with the car as standard. I have heavily modified sr20det\'s and ca18,s in the past but would like to get your views on where to start with this one.
It has a stainless jap exhaust and apexi induction kits and usualy wheels as ad ons.
I looking to stay with the twin turbo set up for the moment. I have been keeping a close eye on the bosst and the first turbo seems to boost to about .7 bar the second closer to a bar.
I am in the process of having a front mounted intercooler and uprated rad being made up but would like to know what else is proven to assist keeping things cool and what the standard turbos can take safely. Are there any modifications to the fueling that need to be done strait away?
Im in the dark a little as its seems that most seem to go for a single turbo set up but im not realy looking for massive power rather a healthy figure but with the emphasis on keeping reliability and not getting to hot under the hood.
Any idea on the braking side too would be good as the current set up is shocking!
Look forward to the replys

Be careful of detonation! Your second tubby seems to be boosting a bit high, and with a bigger, better intercooler, you could be asking for trouble. First things first: get at least an Apexi PFC and Commander.
Have been looking at a couplr of threads on here and seems to be a way to go. have heard that they are a bit complex to set up though. There is no boost controller at present and the set up was done when the emgine was rebuilt so was asuming that it was standard. What is the usual bar of each tubby?
cheers

Hi Tom
i agreee with nikp on the apexi, get one of the vendors above to set it up for you and have fun. I would also get someone to look at your brake system as they shouldn\'t be shocking! I always thought that the brakes were a strength of the fd set-up.
Regards
Jon
Apexi a must to make sure things are fuelling Ok. Exhaust and air filter a good start so the Apexi FC will compliment this nicely. Get a V-mount rather than a front mount, alternatively you can source a used larger 3row stock mounted IC from RHD Japan.
Uprate your fuel pump and injectors also.
so fc has just been ordered, if im going to stay with the standard turbos what injectors should I be looking for?
Have a reciept for a uprated fuel pump but will prob change over to be safe. Ive always used walbro before is that the norm on these too?
When the car goes in for this stage intercooler rad fuel pump injectors and fc what can the standard turbos run in psi safely
are there any other sugestions into safe running?
thanks for your help guys
in regards to the brakes the rear seems to be the problem, dosent feel good at all think the discs are pretty warped and I recon the near side rear caliper has seen better days. I think I will head for a newe set of discs and pads alround and get the rear caliper off to see if its usable.
Are there any recomendations of decent disc\'s /pads set ups or do most find the standard ones are ok?
Keep boost below 1.0bar, probably safe around 0.85 I guess.
850cc injectors (secondaries) is what I\'m running with stock twins. Some people prefer to run larger primaries set up. Not sure which is best, swings and roundabouts probably.
re pump, 280ltr p/h probably a good start. I bought a Sard pump.
Standard boost is 0.8 bar and I think they work very well at 1bar. Heat becomes too much of a problem above 1.2bar as far as im aware. Boost pattern is 10 8 10 up to 99 spec cars where it changes to 12 10 12 psi.
You may also want to consider water injection.
As for uprating the fuel, there are lots of different ways to do this. You can add additional injectors into the elbow and plenum. You can change either primarys or secondary\'s for bigger. A lot of people use 1680\'s with a new fuel rail and leave the primarys at 550 - this should ensure that if you do go single turbo and more power then your fuel should still be sufficient
