Title: FC coilover conversion.
Post by: travellinbob on August 31, 2006, 06:15:24 PM
Hi all, I am attempting at th emoment to install soome fc front struts into my poor morris minor traveller and have spent far too long staring at them and was wondering if anyone had converted the standard struts to an adjustable coil over set up???? I KNOW that you can buy of the shelf coilover struts but I have seen kits ofr sale to do it yourself!  Sure, most might say to me...havnt you already bitten off more than you can chew?  well probably yes, but   thought this might be interesting for the DIY (tight) techy people out there. MIkeLMR converted his 323\'s front struts like this too so I am not completely mad.
 cheers, michael.

not sure on the FC but being a modern setup I guess they don\'t use a damper insert like the older cars. That means you can\'t really go welding the threaded tube onto the shock as you will damage the damper which is now parts of the actual strut. On the early struts you just remove the damper insert and weld away.

one thing we have done is to make a sleeve with a cap that will sit over the top of the damper like a top hat, Seems to work just fine, but needs a little thought to see if it will work on an FC.

i had some rears made using Koni struts,  they just lathed a small groove around the strut and put a big circlip around it to hold the threaded part.
