Title: Cars, dont you just love them !!
Post by: Red and Single on August 30, 2006, 07:30:31 PM
Changed oil and filter today in preperation for trax, first track outing in the rex, absolutely cannot wait. :Thumbsup! :Thumbsup!

Refilled the oil, start hes up to pump it around and recheck the level....hang on a minute that seems a bit louder than normal...

Turbo to downpipe gasket is half gone !! 2 nuts loose, one tight, one missing altogether !! :spank :spank  Need to watch that a bit better dont I !! :spank

So now I\'ve gotta get her up on stands outside my house, pull the downpipe (fiddley and not fun) get a pattern off the gasket, email it to turbo shops and try and get a new one sent to me in time to get it all back together again in time for Trax. :D :Typing

Hope the weather is looking kind over te next days or I\'m getting V wet doing this.... :bandit

Worse still, I\'ll have my own car lift installed in a couple of months as my friendly garage has just closed and given me one of their ramps (nice people !!) if this had happenned 2 months later, no problems !! :reallymad

I cant even take it to them to get it sorted as they\'ve just closed up and I\'ve no time anyway.

I must have been driving it around like that for weeks now, just shows how silly loud the car is that I didnt hear any difference untill I ran her with thte hood up ! Darent take her on track like that though...no way.

Just thought I\'d get it off my chest !

P.S. If anyone has any gaskets for a T04S kicking around please feel free to shout up !!

ahh so you dont have a v-band fitting then.

Hmmm cant you make up a bit of metal for a gasket and use a bit of exhaust putty on either side to seal?

V-Band wasn\'t invented when they built my turbo :rollin

I\'ve been advised by Carl Haywood not to use putty as if any gets in the turbo it\'s goodnight vienna.

Should be doable just about, just what terrible timing !!

Will use that as a last resort, hoping to get the real deal sorted in time, if not I\'ll try the metal route but I have doubts that a steel gasket will be malleable enough to do the job, and aluminium will melt !! I have other material available but dont know which will suit the job... ??? ??? ???
Copper ? Brass ?
