Title: Dash lights dead - which fuse
Post by: lanciachris on August 30, 2006, 10:12:04 AM
After getting the y-pipe and manifold replaced (byebye emissions equipment :cheers ) on my rexx, and learning to start it I figured its time to reward it by putting a stereo in it.

Long story short, had it all working (albeit no memory - couldnt find a permanent live), but somehow in the process of putting it in its cradle in the dash I managed to do something which means no power to the radio, and nothing on the dashboard gauges. I assume this means ive blown a fuse (and am wondering where the power supply the live was wired to comes from!)

The fuse box diagram in the handbook bears no resemblance at all to what I seem to have in the footwell, can anyone give a clue where to look?

Heh! that would be assuming it still had its lid! Both the lid off that and the main fuse box in the engine bay are missing.

I started pulling and replacing fuses.. all the 10 amps, the 15 amps, the 20 amps, the 30 amps.. thought damn. Must be one of the underbonnet ones. Did all the 30 amps there... nope.

Returned to the fuse box.. pulled the 1 remaining fuse (7.5amp) and that was the culprit. Now why is my stereo being powered through such a weedy fuse? :/

I replaced it with a 10 amp for the time being. Now to find out why only the back right / front left speakers are working :) well.. after ive recovered from this latest bit of contorsionism.

No idea why the owners manual depicts a completely different fuse box to the one in my car...

the ownwers manual is prob for a US car :D

the engine bay ones are the the ECu and fuel pumps etc.. and wont effect the stereo :D

And the reason why those speakers werent working - wires werent attached! It really boggles the mind that someone went in there, fitted new speakers and then went \'actually, i dont think ill bother attaching the wires\' and put it all back together over it

the wires to the door speakers come off quite often [ maybe the window mech. rubs them until they come off]?

Stu

A lid !? - Mine never came with a lid :Hammer

Luckily the PDF\'s I have for the yank model are very similar to the UK spec for the convertible.  If you are still having probs I could send you a page from there.
