Title: Leading / Trailing connections - 20b
Post by: Roundabout-Now on August 29, 2006, 10:19:58 PM
Silly question and I\'m 99% sure I know the answer but.....

Is there any reason, on a 20b engine, that the leads would be hooked up with t1 above l3.... as in the following

t1    t2    t3
l3     l2     l1

so that the lead from l3 on the ignition box (probably another name for it but that\'s the name I\'m giving it) is connected to the spark plug below t1 on the block.

errr sounds wrong to me - but what do i know !! :D

1st rotor is the front one , 2nd middle , 3rd back ( bulk head )

Trailing ( T ) is top , leading ( L ) is lower thats how i know it

so i take it the car lives again ??

Sounds wrong to me as well - unless something strange is happening in the motec to make it all right.

Yep - the car lives again, after 2 years of garage problems. Just trying to sort out one little misfire (in mid-range under high load) and then everything should be right.

Decided to check the plugs tonight and found the wires hooked up in the way I described below. Based on what I know (or think I know) I wouldn\'t even have expected the car to run with that setup if the signals are being sent the normal way, so am going to call the garage tomorrow in case they did something strange with the ignition box. But as you said - what do I know.:Tongue1

Car sounds as awesome as ever. Great fun to drive. Didn\'t realise how much I missed it until it came back.

My garage problems will be made public at a later date - for now I\'m still keeping quiet as court proceedings have only just come to a close and don\'t want to do anything that might give the other party an excuse not to pay me the settlement.

welcome back there bud! We thought we\'d lost you!

Maybe the 1st and 3rd rotors fire in sync? In which case the two plugs would be interchangable. I managed to get mine running on the trailing plugs only at one point, doesn\'t idle well though so if two of your six plugs aren\'t firing at quite the right time it will still run, just not properly

it could be correct ... you\'d need to check carefully but if they are connected to 3 coil packs you could find that they are running a wasted spark system that uses the same coil pack to fire primary on one rotor and trailing on the other. I\'m not saying it\'s the correct answer I\'m just suggesting that might be the case ?

I know you can do somthing similar with a 2 rotor and ditch the dizzy for both the primary sparks.
