Title: What is this pipe for?
Post by: imebgo on August 27, 2006, 03:44:27 PM
Afternoon,

My FD has developed a boost problem so I decided to investiage whilst i replaced my coolant pipe and fit a underdrive kit, on taken the plastic box on top of the intercooler one of the pipes just seemed to be sitting there.  I think it has something to do with the HKS filters that were installed before I took ownership of the car.

Basically the pipe is routed around the rear of the manifold and just seemed to be sitting (not attached) in a hole underneath the cold air intake.  The air pump pipe was DIY\'ed to the side of the cold air intake.  This rouge pipe is blowing out air under boost, does it have anything to do with the waste gate?

Picture of the pipe at: here (http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/album_photo.html?c_photo=77633199&fit=1)

Cheers, James

That\'s the air pump return pipe if I\'m not mistaken. It\'s usually connected to the  standard air box so it it recycles air back in. No problem leaving it like that as long as it doesn\'t wave about and get caught in a belt or something! ;)

Cheers,
Alex

Yeah it\'s part of the the HKS filters, I think it just routes under the car so you don\'t get the odd noise you get if you leave it off? I moved to the Racing Suction kit and with that it actually pipes into one of the filters.

With the airpump removed can I just take this pipe off totally and blank it off wherever it is connected to?

^ Yep, with the airpump gone you can dump that pipe :)

You can also dump the ACV, the pipe to the cat and the hardpipes :)

What does the noise sound like, just for my own interest really?

Thanks!
