Title: Green Fluid in Footwell - HELP!
Post by: khyber pass on August 25, 2006, 03:24:56 PM
All seemed well with the world until about 1 hour ago...

Started rx up and it pinged Low coolant...then it stopped....

Having read of others having had similar issue, I tootled a couple of miles (literally 2/3) when suddenly the "heat" sign flashed....Messed myself and pulled over (not sure in which order):eek .
Sat for 30 minutes and then drove the car back home again (no warnings of any kind on journey back)...

Just starting to breath easier as I sat on the drive with engine off when I heard a drip. Looked in passenger footwell to see a puddle of green fluid....

Has anyone got a good idea what has happened (and how bad it is!?)

Cheers

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh The heater Matrix is leaking or the pipes going into it, this was the first ever problem I encountered with a FD, I had to take the dash out to replace the Matrix, POS job time consuming

Yup, thanks Blitzboy, the descriptions of heater matrix failure sound eerily familiar...! Would be lovely to think it was just a pipe....

Typical, as I\'d literally got the car back from Pip last Friday !

Anyone in the Midlands (I\'m in Telford) able to help me out with this one in exchange for money/beer and undying gratitude!?
The thought of another high cost bill in the space of two weeks is depressing...

Cheers

Steve

I got a second hand matrix from "JIMMYS" when mine went wrong for about £70 three years ago
Title: Are these the pipes to connect together?

Grizzly described having connected "in and out" pipes together to create a temporary solution to a heater matrix problem...

are these the pipes..see pic...and anything to do or NOT do after connecting up (eg - don\'t use air con; dont turn on heater, etc).

is there a simple way of connecting these pipes up from people\'s experiences?

Cheers

Steve

PS.Blitzboy, thanks for the tip about Jimmy\'s ...thats a lot cheaper than the £150-£170 i\'d been hearing...

A friend had this problem on his FD, before ordering any parts he took the dash off to have a look and found a pin size hole in one of the pipes and he just taped it up!!! So i wouldnt go ordering a matrix just yet bud, as yours could be similar. hopefully it will:King

Gandy,

i wish it was a pin size hole...but I\'ve got a swimming pool in the passenger well from a 4 mile drive!

I\'ve just been on to "Jimmys" and Andrew was a star about the price.

Gonna put copper pipe in between hoses for a temp fix tomorrow, heater matrix arrives next Wednesday, have a look and if its not pipework, have bash at the matrix next weekend...(any offers of help kindly accepted...?).

Only puzzle is one posting talked about it being a 2 hour job and other people have now told me it\'s 6-8hrs.

What is correct?

Missus won\'t forgive me if she has no heater for the winter!

yeah, thems the right pipes. my matrix has been gone from day one, like a tw4t i didn\'t try the heater when test drivung the car. dont know about times though but was quoted ~600 squid for the job, so if parts are about 150 that equals long time

Well matrix is fixed.....

scared me silly when it started revving up and down like a piano scale....thankfully, disconnected battery, left it to think about the error of its ways...and when I reconnected, it sang like a cannary again. BABY\'s BACK! Purring like a kitten and running like a cheetah!

Lol mine went about a couple of months ago too, was on a track doing the warmup laps and my mate who was in the passenger seat complained that his legs were getting wet lol !!!

Its a really time consuming job, take your time and do it I say.

Oh and download and read plenty of the guides etc on here !!!
