Title: Shell V-Power Fuel launches
Post by: Devil\'s Refugee on August 25, 2006, 06:06:44 AM
Has anyone seen this yet, the advert or even at the pumps ?
Time for another remap !
99RON unleaded..... :god

QuoteShell UK today launches its latest generation of performance unleaded fuel - Shell V-Power.

Available across the UK, new Shell V-Power builds on the highly successful Shell Optimax premium fuel brand launched in 2001.

The same Shell international scientists who develop the Ferrari Formula 1 racing fuels have created a unique fuel blend that is designed to get more power and responsiveness from your vehicle.

Instrumental to Shell V-Power’s development has been the working relationship forged between Shell and Ferrari over the last 50 years across the Grand Prix circuits of the world.  The Ferrari Formula 1 car provides Shell scientists with a unique cutting-edge mobile laboratory enabling fuels to be developed and tested under the most severe conditions, benefiting from instant feedback and analysis. Findings are fed back into Shell’s road fuel development programmes.

The result: a fuel for customers who understand that not all fuels are the same.

Shell V-Power contains Shell\'s unique Friction Modification Technology (FMT) as used by the Formula 1 Ferrari team in their 2006 racing fuels.  This is designed to help the engine turn more freely and improve performance.
Shell V-Power has an octane rating of 99 RON, designed to provide more power and improved responsiveness in many modern cars.
Shell V-Power contains a powerful cleaning formula designed to improve engine responsiveness by removing power-robbing deposits, helping the fuel to burn more effectively.

John Rasmussen, UK Retail Director said, “This is a proud day for Shell Retail. Shell V-Power allows our customers to fill-up with a performance fuel derived directly from our Formula 1 technical partnership with Ferrari”.

He went on:

“Our relationship with Ferrari helped us introduce the first premium performance fuel to the UK market in 2001. Shell V-Power builds on that proven motor sport heritage, moving the market forward again; delivering hard-fought-for track-proven innovation, such as FMT, to the road and our customers.

Shell V-Power, like no other Shell fuel before it, caters for those customers all across the UK who are looking for a fuel designed to help extract additional responsiveness from their vehicles.

To find the nearest site to your home or work place, use the online search facility at shell.co.uk. Alternatively, give the Customer Service Centre a call on 0800 7318888.

used V-Power few times here in Germany with bad experience. Maybe depend on German fuel but the engine tends to knock more with V-Power as wih regular 98-oktane fuel from other vendors. German V-Power is rated 100 oktane, just for info.

I\'ll give it a try, I hope it doesn\'t do any increasing in knocking otherwise this stuff will annoy me, I think the main problem is that its designed specifically for piston engines (according to the website, well I only brief read it)

Would be good if shell could actually get someone to respond to email\'s rather than choosing from about 10 pre-typed emails    we would then be able to see what advantages it has for us Rotary\'s

Normal unleaded 95 octane
BP Ultimate 97 octane
Optimax 98 octane

You guys must get much cheaper petrol than us up here, the cheapest optimax I can get is 99.9p and it has been as high as 103.9 in recent weeks

I think Evo did a test on the different fuels available. Came out (depending on whether they got a large bung from Shell) that Optimax was the most consistent performer. Tesco 99RON did well, 2nd placed.

I think it was 93p ish? the garage was cheaper than other places for some reason. Its the Shell in Tonbridge near the a21 junction.

Optimax is 102.9 here and never seems to come down.  They are going to change to BP in x month\'s time so wont even have the option.  My next Shell is another 10miles away :(

Shell just sent me their brochure & stuff on v-power, and a spanky new v-power pluspoint card that\'s shaped like the Mint credit card :D

I wouldn\'t have thought this fuel will cause us any problems, as most of our cars are imports & Jap fuel is 100 ron. So it should be more suited.

Gotta go & fill up a little later, so will see if they\'ve switched to V-power at 1 of the Shell garages round here.

Hope this works well. Used the german V-Power in the MR2 when we went to the \'ring a couple of years back and that was NICE

Title: interesting results from auto expresson fuel Oct level
Post by: Eddie on August 27, 2006, 08:36:27 PM
recent results tested by auto express on fuel octane levels shows some interesting results.
Cars were drained then drove 60 miles to allow the ecu\'s to take oct level into account (well on the vxr anyway the polo does not check for oct so does not adjust the ecu)

Two car have been tested on the same rolling road which has an accuracy of + or -1 BHP
Vauxhall Astra VXR
Regular 95 ron 213.5bhp,
BP ultimate 97 ron 209.7bhp,
Shell optimax 98 ron 222.2bhp,
Tesco 99 ron 221.3bhp

VW polo 1.2
Regular 95 ron  70.7 bhp
BP ultimate 97 ron   66.2bhp
Shell optimax 98 ron  69bhp
Tesco 99 ron 69.4bhp

I always use BP and these results surprised me ( the testers thought they may have had a bad batch of fuel but I will not be using the BP stuff anymore till I see some more results.
Only reason I did was because BP is a lot nearer to me than a shell garage,

Cheers

I filled up with V-Power the other day and before I did I checked with the guy behind the counter that it was the same octane as optimax, he told me it was 99. He was curious to why I was asking, so I explained. He then told me that they had been selling V-Power fuel for the last 2 months but it was still branded as Optimax.

So if you regularly fill up with Optimax and you\'ve not noticed a difference over the last two months, I shouldn\'t think there is anything to worry about.

so theres still the confusing question of what ron it actually is and whether its better, worse or the same as optimax

The best fuel to use is the one who\'s RON rating is closest to the tuning of your ECU.

I run a Jap ECU in my car which is tuned for 100 RON pump gas - consequently I have found Tesco and Optimax to be the best fuels - I usually do 4 fills of Tesco to 1 of Optimax and only use the Opti for the detergents in it.  The car does appear to run better on Tesco 99, and as the ECU is not tunable, I haven\'t ever used 95 RON since I put the ECU in.

I might be tempted to run a tank of BP 102 in it, but the BP Ultimate is a pile of poo

ok im a bit sad - i picked up the V power leaflet and it is 99ron fuel. its got a different blend of detergants which are supposed to make it better. interestingly it says you can join a V power club.

I have been using v power a couple of weeks now. tend to find that my car will drink more tesco 99 ron but isnt as thirsty when using v power? anyway theres not much difference but my car does feel like its running very well.

My car is mapped for 97ron stuff as a safety measure just incase I cant find any 98 optimax. I thought that running on 99 would be much better for the engine (probably wouldnt notice any differnece in performance) and reduce knock levels.:bandit

When I had the standard ECU in mine I used to get an extra 45 ish miles to the tank when I used Optispax to the next best fuel.  Hopefully this one will improve ever so slightly in this area again - so another plus! :cheers

Not really noticed much of a power increase, but my knock level have decreased a fair bit I must say.
Usually I hit mid 30\'s, since V-Power I barely see it in the 30\'s.

I found out something interesting (ish :D)

Shell had told it\'s staff to tell customers (who asked what RON Optimax is) that it was 97RON!!!! Whet\'s that all about then! :eek :Nono!

Higher octane doesn\'t give you more power Zee. Its less likely to knock so you can tune the car higher (ie boost) and thus achieve more power.

Filled both the SLK and the RX7 up on this last weekend,

SLK actually you can notice the difference alot smoother and more responsive, not to an amazing amount of course but it is noticeable :Ladys-man

The RX7 feels alittle smoother otherwise no real difference but then again the carbon eating formula is the reason we use this more than the power stuff.

The sales dude at the shell garage though knew nothing about V-MAX ie the ron rating or what it does just said "its supposed to be better than optimax" ??

Anyone know if the ron rating decreases over time as with the optimax ???

There was a chap who posted on here that he had left his car for some considerable time and when he used it again he noticed that knock was pretty much the same as before.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the ron rating to decrease?

I take my car out once or twice a week and used to fill the car up when empty but since I heard this I just put 20 quid in a time - but then you run the risk of always feeding any crap at the bottom of the fuel tank through the car.

What am I best to do? Fill it up and risk the ron rating decreasing, or just putting fuel in as I need it?

Thanks.
