Title: clear side repeaters
Post by: Ric on November 14, 2003, 03:23:37 PM
Where can I get hold of clear side repeaters? I\'m not a great fan of the OEM orange ones...

Also - I\'d like to get hold of a UK manual (\'95 Type RS) as I don\'t think there is much chance of me reading my current one :)

Either original paper or an electronic copy would be fine with me.

cheers,

ric

[dumb ass question mode on] Before i go into halfords & try tormenting them for the clear indicators as i\'ve still not heard anything back from them, is that part number for the lights or the manual?

went to halfords today and couldn\'t find ANY clear repeaters for the RX7. I even got the bloke to go through their computer system.

Nothing listed for either RX7 or MX6. In fact the only Mazda they had was the MX5...

You can get the orange side repeater bulbs (501A) ok.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting hold of some nice clear ones?

Anybody knows how to take the side repeater light off the car - I have tried a) tugging it away from the car  b) sliding towards the front of the car and c) sliding it towards the rear of the car.
But it won\'t budge. Before trying with more force I need to know how it comes off.

I don\'t want to damage them so if someone can describe how it comes off I will appreciate it.

Just got my clear ones today and it was a five minute job to replace the existing orange ones.

There is a plastic spring catch to the rear of the indicator. Grab both ends, squeeze gently from the front and lever it away from the bodywork. You might need to pull firmly if any gunk has built up. That said, both mine came out easily although the nearside certainly required consderably more effort.

Once you have the unit out there is a small press clip to disconnect the lead and plug. Be carefull not to loose your wires in the wing - thankfully Mazda seem to have included plenty of slack.
Then pop your new units in...

Ineed to get me  a set of those.  I have purchase replacement front and rear side lights as the yanks call them.(from Pro parts in the states)  On our cars they are the orange and red reflectors at the front and rear.

Problem is, is that they are cyrstal clear lenses and you can see the hole for where the bulb should go.  On our cars they are just blanked off at the back.

I have two choices ..

Blank off the hole somehow and fit.  this is an option but in my mind not very professional.

Or somehow source the looms for the bulbs.  The wiring is no problem as I can take a feed from the sidelights.  The problem is getting the correct bulb holders to fit the units...

Anyone have any ?, Or anyone have any great ideas.

Thanks,

Tom

PS.  The bulbs are red I think it will look quite cool with a glow from the front and rear of the car... HAVE I GONE MAD ???

I could either

Si - I got them from Pow:R for £25 (inc postage) - so that\'s £12.50 each :p

There website doesn\'t have anything on it - you need to phone the bloke up (number listed above) and send a cheque. Service was very good and turn aound quick which is more than could be said for Farce-al-Force Royal mail who couldn\'t organise a piss up in a brewery - let alone deliver a small fekkin\' parcel. I had to drive all the way to the East London office to pick the bugger up in rush hour traffic last night - not fun :(

Quality is very good though - exact copy of OEM but with a clear lense. Bargain! - They don\'t come with Silvatec bulbs but don\'t look noticably orange when not on.

excellent smithers (http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/Gif/SimpBurns.gif) how did you know i was a tight ass economics graduate who liked to calculate the cost of every single unit (http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/contrib/blackeye/blabla.gif)
Have you had a butchers at the bulbs presumably? What sort were they as i wood feel the need for silvatecs however little orange is involved with normal bulbs but need to know which buggers i\'ll need & info hasn\'t exactly been forthcoming on which bulbs they actually use (http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/ups/kiss_my_ass/ouch.gif)

They are exactly the same as OEM - see my early post for Halfords bulb type (501 I believe)

i bought some clear side repeaters for my FD from halfords for 22 quid, came with all the bulbs and slotted straight in...... no probs
They are listed as MX6 items.  2 minute job to fit and look fine as can be seen in the picture.  The rear clear reflectors i got from cork sport in the states, but they are not blanked like the original, as they are for american cars.  I am in the process of trying to source these from R-magic in japan, so if anyone is wanting any, let me know.  I will also be getting proper R-Magic side repeaters and front reflectors.

Cheers

Sorry for the delay.... but have not had chance to have a look into halfords.  Here are two links.  Both showing the indicator....but i can\'t remember which one.  So go in to halfords with a RX7 original and get them to phone the supplier  ABC Design and ask them for diemensions.  One of them does fit......for all i know hese two maybe the same.  Just check before buying.

On another note, i have sorced some clear reflectors from japan.....proper ones, not cheap ones from the states.  This are the real deal but they do cost a bit :(

I am now running my own business supplying parts so if there\'s anything people are wanting let me know.  I am awaiting some more rotor style oil caps in the new year if anyone wants one.

Cheers

Hi, i got some of the clear reflectors from the states, //www.procarparts.com, but as mentioned somehwere above they are supplied with a hole for a bulb. I just got an old indicator bulb holder and bulb and plugged them in place. They do not work but it does not leave a unfilled hole in the back of them.

having a look about am i now correct/safe in thinking MX6 & 626 side repeaters are the same as the RX7 uses, that being case found quite a good site for them, in theory, here (http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/pages/sbv_pn.asp?PartNo=MZ-300&LineNo=43981000)  so just under £22 by looks of it......
Anyone fancy confirming that & i\'m still gagging to know what bulb is used in the side flashers so i could get appropriate silvatech uns?

I sent the doris to Halfrauds today while I was at work to get me a set, I said they dont do rx7 ones but mx6 ones fit, they ended up flogging her some Fiat Punto ones saying they \'reckon\' there a universal fit, and of course they aren\'t.

Just pay £25 and get them from Pow:R as mentioned earlier in this thread. Quality is spot on and they fit perfectly. In fact they are exact copies of OEM items; except clear of course. I\'ll take a picture tomorrow and post it for you if you like.

Adam,

Any idea on prices for the oil caps?  - A pic would be good, as def interested, but price and timescale dependant.  Spotted a crack in mine at the weekend.

Also,
Looking at the pic of your car, what did you do with the front reflectors?  - not the repeaters/indicators, but the godawful orange reflectors just in front of the front wheels.  I don;t mind the red ones at the back of the car but don\'t like orange.

Hi mate...

Sorry to say i have ceased trading for the time being....too busy in my full time job, designing the new facilities at Rolls Royce in Derby.

The oil caps are expensive....about 90 quid.  If you still want one i can point you in the direction of a company that does sell them.

As for my front reflectors, i had a Veilside CII kit fitted which does not use any sort of reflector.

Si, On the indicator front, i see you are sorted from pow-r.  I have just ordered my self some from japan, proper mazda ones.  Should be at my door for about 17quid.  also got some clear rear reflectors, also proper mazda ones, for 45quid.

Cheers

Cheers Adam,

I\'m afraid that £90 for an oil cap is a little too rich for my blood.

Sorry to hear you\'ve stopped trading but am even more sorry I didn\'t recognise the Cii kit. (could do with one of Scooby\'s headbanging smilies about now)

You heading to Rotorstock?
I\'ve been thinking about the Cii nose for the car, but want to see one up close.  If you are there and see someone looking far too closely at your car to be polite, it\'ll probably be me!
