Going to be attempting this tomorrow morning, used the search and there\'s not much info, checked on FDUK aswell. This is my plan so far;
1. Remove the wheels
2. Remove the driveshafts
3. Remove the exhaust
4. Unbolt the propshaft
5. Unbolt the powerplant frame
6. Lower the diff
7. Remove the diff subframe
It seems pretty straight forward but im unsure of how to remove the driveshafts?, i was going to just have a look when i get to that point but if someone could give me any ideas before i start then that would be appreciated.
Also replacing the oil, is that just a case of fill it up as much as you can when its on the ground, fit the diff then top it up??:o
It cant be any harder than dropping the gearbox? surely (he hopes!!!!)
Cheers Andy:WaveBye :D
I got a tip for you ,
Wear some overalls before you begin :Giggle
The FSM has a lot of good drawings related to removing the diff. Basically, removing the drive shafts consists of putting a pry bar between the diff case and the end of the CV joint, and yanking carefully till it pops out.
I\'d add removing the under trays either side to your list to give you some more room to see what you\'re looking at and to work. Those little bolts can be a biatch, though, and love to shear off. What is it with japs and their fear of anti seizing compound?
Maybe draining the fluid as one of the first things, as it\'ll probably leak out like you stabbed it once you\'ve popped a shaft out. Not sure about that, but better safe than sorry, and covered in smelly old diff oil. My girlfriend did it the other day while she was changing the gearbox oil, and removed the magnetic plug first by mistake :Laugh
You fill it by having the car level, and filling till the fluid just starts to come out of the filler hole.
Hope it goes well. I\'m changing my diff oil today, and she\'ll still be on stands for a few days (the car, not the gf before anyone gets funny ideas :p), so if you need anything for reference give me a shout.
Thumbs up on the overalls as well. lol
Thanks gurj:2Rolleyes
Someone at work told me to remove my wheel centre cap, then loosen the 32mm ish bolt that is the driveshaft, then jack up, remove wheel, undo the bottom swing arm so that the hub moves, the pull the driveshaft out. Does this sound right??
Just been looking through the old threads on rx7club and looks like i can replace the mounts without removing half the rear end. Fingers crossed.
Im going in. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!............ Nurse sponge:o :D
Good luck!
If you\'re not back in 8 hours we\'ll send a virtual search party...
lol, thanks mate. if you do send a search party can you make sure that there is one of them big St. Bernard dogs with the barrel of booze:cool ;) :Giggle
We\'ll send Gurj, is that close enough?

get a big bar and a decent single hex socket ... just doing a CV joint and a wheel bearing on my 323 V6 and the hub nuts were so tight the tyres were slipping while I was trying to undo them ! Ended up cutting through them in the end (replacing the CV\'s so destroying them was an option) In theory they shouldn\'t have been that tight but you know what muppets are like with air tools
Jacked the car up to have a look this morning, and I slowly realised that doing this job on gravel and axel stands and a halfrauds socket set is going to be near impossible:rolleyes:  So off went the car to the local garage with the mounts (thanks Gary:Thumbs-up )
Another job avoided:Viking
Its been done with a halfrauds took kit and axel stands before just ask kieron.
helped change one in the pits at shakey raceway with tool kit I carry in the rally car ... was Brian Ellis at Rotorstock1 who\'d lunched the diff.
I feel like a loser now:rolleyes: :Tongue1
I guess one of the reason i took it to the garage was, over the last 6 months ive helped take the engine out, gearbox off !!every time i have to do a job like this i start to hate the bloody car. Just got it back from mapping aswell and this goes wrong.!!!
Ownership shouldnt be a chore, and i just wanted it done......... so there:Ladys-man
can\'t blame you ... been without transport for nearly a week now due to DIY car fixing. Also makes you appreciate that some of the garages prices aren\'t really that much of a rip off !
