Title: A bit vague this i know...but any answers??
Post by: Dan Norton on November 13, 2003, 09:10:08 PM
Hey all,

Sorry this is a bit vague but i hope someone can help!

The fd3 i want in japan is a great car all round, its been re-built 33000kms ago, it has a single turbo conversion etc etc.

But anyway, the guy whos selling it has told me that after a long run and you have switched it off (say like at a petrol station), and go to turn it back on again, sometimes its difficult to start!?!?

What can cause this to happen?

I know there could be a number of possiblities but i was hoping some of you tech guys on here could enlighten me....is it a common prob....or whatever:confused: ?

I know the crx is very very different to an fd3, but normally when this happens on a crx, its a dry soldered joint on the main relay, preventing it from firing up when its hot...leave it 2or 3 minutes and its fine again!

Any help would be great!

Cheers,

Dan!!

Hi Dan,
Generally if the engine starts fine when cold but not when hot then it is worn out with regardsto the seals.

I cannot imagine that they have not changed the plugs and serviced it to eradicate this problem.

This means that it may need a rebuild soon and be low on compression.Get them to compression test it by a rotary expert and email you the readings. This should be done when hot and in the trailing plug holes with the throttle wide open. They should send you 3 readings for each rotor so you should end up with 6 readings all together.
If they do this you can email me with them and I will let you know if it is ok.
kind regards
Carl

Thanks for that carl.......dam i was hoping it was ok, thought it would have been only doing 33000km on a rebuilt engine.

I\'ll try and get a compression test from the seller, but i suppose that if he doesnt want to do that...then it is knackered!:(

I would be looking at a full re-build yea?!?

Cheers,
Dan!!

Maybe,it all depends on the compression test.

You said it had a single turbo conversion too, though, and that\'s going to seriously hurt the life of the engine. I remember reading on an American forum, someone posted that they had not seen a single turbo\'d engine last for more than 10,000 miles! I couldn\'t quite believe that at the time, and I\'m still not entirely sure how valid that claim is, but it\'s something to think about.

O yea, thanks for the advice.....i know what you are saying about the single turbo conversion, the car is kicking out 450bhp, so i can imagine its pretty worn.

I spoke with carl today (thanks carl), and he assured me that the car would certainly be worth it in the end, so i\'m gonna go for the car and expect the worst....blimey:confused:

Thanks lads,

Dan!!
