Title: nice rex, risky?
Post by: Battymon on August 21, 2006, 01:24:41 AM
im interested in an rx7 thats advertised on ebay, it says it MAY have had a rebuild in japan when single turbo conversion was carried out.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&item=120020970181&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

i have seen it advertised elsewhere for roughly £8k, is this too much of a  risky buy not being guaranteed its had a rebuild?

obviously id go for a look before any offers were made, what are the main points to look out for?

anyone know of this car or know the owner?

Ok, Like any Seven you want Proof of a Rebuild (If not take that into acount with the price, Extra load will bring it around quicker). Get the proper Compresion test results too, it may well be 7\'s all round which is about right for a 40k origanal engine but if its 7.0 7.0 7.9 and 7.2 7.6 7.9 this would mean the engine is up for a rebuild real soon (the Results must be even if there is big variations its not good). It would be nice to see high 7\'s all round within .2 of a bar and not a masive diffrence between front and rear Rotors.

The pic of the cap of the coolant should have the engine running (to check water seals) there should be NO bubbles, this test must be done whilst cold (Oviously)

The specs not bad, 7500-8k would be about the going rate but i\'d want a bit more info on the Engine and to see the car first hand, if its been tuned like that its going to have had a some abuse at some stage.

If you want my Advice do as much reading up as you can, Know what your looking at and go see it.

Battymon - What sort of price range you looking at??

My single turbo is up for sale at the moment HERE (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27499)

Has had a recent rebuild(by re:worx), a refresh and porting by Tim at RX Motors and i can provide proof of this or you can contact them directly i don\'t mind and am happy to provide a compression test.  :D :D :D

If there\'s no proof of rebuild take it as not and pay less accordingly.

You may get a bargain but no way would I buy a car like this without going to view and arranging a thorough checkover with a knowledgable garage.  As it\'s had work done in the UK find out who\'s workedon it.

Also at that power on a standard mount intercooler it may be running quite high intake temps.  Make sure you see a dyno graph of the AFRs - make sure it\'s mapped decently for the power...

for some reason i think i know this car.  did this used to belong to a member on this site.  cant think what his name is, i will try and look it up. (the guy lived in sheffield) the guy i am thinking of had a car that looks almost identical minus the bonnet and it had different wheels.
same turbo, same intercooler
same exhaust (looked identical anyway) very load if it is the car i think it is.
same spoiler
same front bumper
no head units like this one.

the guy was selling loads on this site, do a search for him TD06_FD or somthing like that
look at this thread it shows the car a little while back.  i could be wrong, so sorry if i am but what do you think?

if this is the same car, the exhaust is not very nice sounding.  and when i saw the car it needed a good tidy up.  only one of the headlights was working at the time.  engine sounded ok though but that dont exactly say much.
again if i am wrong i apoliguise.

i aslo just read from that post that he says wheels collected from south yorkshire area, same as ebay location.
the guy didnt seem to really know to much about the car, other than he imported it, only a little while before and that he was going to sell it and get something like an M3.
if still intrested i would def recomend going to look at it before getting to keen.

D1 WTF how you doing? how\'s the Tein suspension?

That\'s my car, if you think the exhaust not very nice sounding it must be the RE ECU run very rich at idle I had the FC+Commander fitted and mapped 2 weeks ago now a lot better.  when you see only one of the headlights was working at the time because its got HID Xenon lights fitted I found there\'s loose connector that\'s all.  all fixed.

Anyone who interested the car please free feel to contact me or test drive or you can bring it to any RX7 specialist for inspection.

£8000 ONO I think the price is very resonable.  I just spent £1500 for boost controlled, FC+ Commander+mapped and carbon bonnet.
