Title: A busy day in the garage :)
Post by: ds2000 on August 19, 2006, 09:50:46 PM
Well another day and a lot more done :)

I\'d forgotten about the boost control pills so had to get a couple and fit them to the wastegate actuator control and turbo pre-control actuator lines, you can see they are tiny little buggers and how reduce the diameter of the piping:

The turbo piping going back on, pretty much all the plumbing is done now:

The bits remaining to be installed has gone from this (+ a garage full):

...to just this:

Dump valve back in place:

I need to make a few adjustments to the fuel lines, reinstall the oil filler neck and dip stick, put the IM extension arm and TB back on, reconnect the ignitor pack, install the check valves and then she\'ll be fired up.  So long as nothing goes horribly wrong that might just be tomorrow afternoon. :3gears-rh

I\'m ****ting myself thinking about it, but odly and in rather a sick way, I\'ve really enjoyed doing this work and have learnt a silly amount :)

Can anyone get me a piccy of how this reconnects please, its been 18 months since it came off and I can\'t for the life of my remember :Ladys-man

Thanks :)

EDIT - What i wrote previously was wrong....to fit that bit, you have to first attach the intake elbow....then that bit goes onto the studs and then you tighten the nuts onto the cannister...

Thanks chap :)

Peter - I think if I were to do this again, it\'d be easier to lift the engine out the car, there really is sod all room to move.

Anyway, sunday:

It seems god, or rather severn trent were against me this weekend  :2Mad

Basically the water has been off for 2 days so far so I can\'t even think about filling the rad up at the moment.

That said, I wasn\'t in a position too, a few things took a little longer that I had hoped but that\'s life.  Basically the car only needs to be jacked up again to reinstall the undertray, but I\'ll be starting it and looking for leaks and fires before then   :flamed

Sunday was a long ass day and very tiring.  Alot of work was done but I still think another 2-3 hours are needed.

Anyway, fuel lines all rigged up:

Ignitor pack and oil filler neck reinstalled:

Rats nest all plumbed in, everything zip tied down:

A couple of other less interesting ones,
Downpipe to CAT (http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yxn0qd&outx=600)
CAT to CATBack (http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yxn0q4&outx=600)
Out the garage hopefully for a good while (http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yxn0qh&outx=600)

Prime your fuel system before putting the UIM back on (paper clip between GND & FP on diagnostic thingy) to check your new fuel lines are ok.  I didnt, and had optimax pooling on top of a hot engine after refitting! :2eek

Hope everything\'s ok.
Cheers
Jon

^ thats exactly what I want to avoild, I\'ve not had the diagnostics thingy out yet... so erm where is it... or will a search reveal all?

The only thing I was concearned about really was the fuel line at the back of the rats nest, it seemed quite tight when I put the nest back in and needed a bit of a shove, I\'m hoping I\'ve not pinched it :(

I twisted the one at the front of the nest when installing it, it had 3 tiny pin prick holes which p1ssed fuel everywhere!  The diagnostic block is on the passenged side wing (near PS pump), and says "diagnostic" on it funily enough :-)

When i fitted my engine back together i forgot to check those things, but fortunately, touch wood, i have no leaks. Certainly couldn\'t smell any petrol while she was running.

lol, I think its well worth checking, with braided hoses and jubilees on each of them, I can\'t see it leaking.  Going to make 100% sure though :)

Few less interesting ones, hopefully my fix for a broken vacuum chamber nipple will hold up:

More like an engine bay:

Alt and airpump reinstalled:

Oh and this happened Clicky :yes   (http://prelude.ndo.co.uk/MOV00002.wmv)

She sounds rough because the airpump line hasn\'t been plugged into the CAT so its making a real racket, the engine fired first time and appears to have no leaks, the idle was hunting but I think she\'ll settle down once I get the last few hard lines on.  I\'ve lost the damn turbo control solenoid too so will need to find one.

All in all, a good day :)

Where can i get some of that red tubing from because my car desperately needs redoing of all the hoses

I think I ordered 60\' of 4mm and 15\' of 6mm.

I have a bit of both left over, quite a bit to be fair but its better to be safe than sorry.

I\'d say unless you are pretty competent with a spanner I\'d avoid this job, I\'ve rebuilt a bottem ends before and found myself getting frustrated with this one :)

id use rubber hosing mate if your using jubilees they dont work that well with braided hose and im speaking from experience as someone else has, optimax all over your spark plugs is not good.

Braided hosing is second to none if you are using the aeroquip style fittings but not if your sleeving it over a std metal pipe. Rubber can be compressed and even tho the braided hosing has rubber inside it doesnt work aswell and like mine did can leak.

^ thanks for the heads up, I did put sealant on the lines but I\'ll definately keep my eye on them, I did do them up pretty tight, but as I say, I\'ll keep an eye on it :)
