im looking at getting my rex mapped with carl. what is the going rate for mapping and what have you lot paid for it. Just so i can get a rough idea on cost and where it was mapped and quality of service.
cheers
Your best asking him what he charges but he has a very good reputation, I don\'t think you can go far wrong.
I\'d say give him a bell and see what he says.
i spoke to him today as was up there. he is a fantastic person. I can see me getting it done there as he knows what he is talking about and doing.
thing is with funds being a little tight i might have to go somewhere else. anyone know anyone who does good mapping with out costing too much
Just read your 2 posts, I think you answered your own question:) If you have confidence in the tuner spend the money, most of the tuning shops will charge around the same sort of money [correct me if I am wrong] anyone else you might not have any comeback if things go wrong [we hope they dont, but it happens]
Rotaries are quite difficult to get right and unfortunately you dont get a second chance to retune because they do tend to go bang if they are not tuned correctly in the first place, I am sure Carl would have pointed all this out to you.
I believe if its the first time the ECU/CAR has been mapped then most tuners usually charge £300+vat for the initial setup. After that you pay by the hour for future mapping after mods if you take it to the same place. :)
When I went to see Carl some time back he was gonna map my car for me. I would recommend Carl as he knows what he\'s doing and his customer service is second to none. The only other person who comes close in terms of customer service is Pip at WGT. I cant see many people coming away from Carl unhappy...he\'s bent over backwards to help me knowing full well that he wont be building my engine. I doubt many other tuner would be so forthcoming with help and service if they thought for a second there wasnt something it it for them....He truly is a rotary enthusiast!
ok thanks guys i guess i will be giving carl a call on monday :)
Just to second recommendation, all work on my rex has been done by Carl and have never had anything but great service.
As far as I remember initial mapping is circa £300 and then as mentioned before by the hour for any future tweaks.
Bulla
yep that is right. i will call him monday and get it booked in.
so when is the next meet
Who\'s Carl ?
carl hayward based at newbury near reading
ok im going at 2 to get it mapped i will let you know how i get on
The only downside to mapping on the Road which Carls does you dont get a nice dyno graph showing how much power/torque you are making
but Mark, we all know that bhp is all just pub talk! ;)
ahhhh but with the dyno graph at least you can see the power curve is smooth or jerky which will indicate if you have a ignition problem and it will show where you hit peak power. Also with a dyno graph you can have the AFR line plotted as well indicating if afrs are smooth or if they jump highly could indicate a pump/injector problem
I had my car mapped by carl recently and i\'m very impressed with the resullt.
I asked carl to tune the car on the safe side (not wanting huge power gains) but the car still pulls a lot stronger and the transition between turbos is a lot smoother.
Customer service is second to none, I would highly recomend Hayward Rotary!
ok carls mapped me up today. fantastic job and i highly recomended to anyone who has not used him.
10 out of 10 carl great work
did he sell you a lighter??
