Title: FD Downpipe
Post by: gonzoninja on August 19, 2006, 09:22:42 AM
I\'m looking to get a new downpipe and I REALLY like the look of the Knightsports one but it is a tad expensive at £450 from New Era.

I see that RE:worx do a couple of cheaper options but what are they like. My car is not massively tuned but I may change that in the future so I want something that will cope with that.

Also while browsing this site: http://www.ooparts-international.co.jp/index/car/frameset.html

I found an 80mm one from a company called Rouse, anyone heard of them?

looks like it is half stainless. Works out at about £225, I think

Quote£450 from New Era
Blimey that is ££££££
Most people use HKS, I think they are about £150 and pip at wgt used to sell em:Santa. Should be good enough for high power application, unless you go single then it would be binned anyway:Tongue1

good point about going single. £450 is a lot to spend on a downpipe if it gets changed...but then again it is VERY shiney. Which is why I like the idea of the Rouse one. Bigger than the HKS one but not as expensive (well, don\'t know about shipping yet) as the Greddy 80mm one.

My main idea at the moment is to stick with twins, mainly cos I drive my FD every day, so mega horsepower of a single is not that useful, particularly if the council decide to do more roadworks in Guildford and completely **** the whole town-centre, :Grrr but I digress

Having said that, I\'ve never been in a single turbo car, so I dunno if its something I can live with...anyone want to give me a demo? :)

Don\'t buy one from the US. (Steering colum is in the way)

Look at HKS or Greddy etc (jap ones are best as there made for RHD cars ;))

There is not any real advantage in going over 3" and as you say if you are looking to go Single withing 3-4 years then Buy a Mild steel HKS they are Cheap and do the job well. If you plan on keeping the Twins and just adding bolt ons to up the power then look at Stainless 3" and up Pipes. I would\'nt bother putting a £450 down pipe on a car over say a HKS for the simple reason the avarage driver won\'t feel the diffrence and the only advantage i can think of for buying one would be its resale value. BUT!! its only going to be worth £300 with 2 years of use so the diffrence would be well on its way to Buying a HKS (which i may add will still be resaleable)
