Hello im new to this formum have had quite a few jap cars in the past but have finaly given up and gone for a rx7 3 gen. Im piking it up in a couple of days! cant wait!
There are a couple of bits wrong with it and I just wanted to know if it is guna be ok as ive got a 350mile journey home.
the first is a slight oil leak from just under the filer where the triangle shaped two flanges are that join together. Its only a drip or to every now and again but dont wanna cause any damage looks like a leaky seal!
The second point is that apparaently there is a unit towards the front of the block that is disconnected as the exhaust is de/catted. It works when you pug it in (he said some sort of air pump?). Can anyone shed any light?
It has had an engine rebuild about 2000 miles ago so dont realy wana cause any damage to that.!
appreciate any advice
cheers
tom
Not sure on the oil leak mate, but as for the air pump, if your car doesn\'t have a CAT anymore then the pump is pretty pointless and wont do any harm unpluged. I bloody hope thats right as mines the same ha ha
All the air pump does is pump air in to the CAT to help with the emissions of the car. Does the car have an uprated ECU at all. You might want to think about looking into that next if the CATs gone and it more free flowing now.
You dont want the car to run lean on fuel beacuse of this.

It should be ok.. I drove mine with a leaky oil filler pipe for a couple of months.
The 2nd point is true, if it has been de-catted the air pump becomes redundant. It\'s there to improve emmissions by flowing additional air in with the exhaust gasses, doesn\'t affect the performance (except that by being belt driven off the eccentric shaft it is a slight drain on power when in use)
damn, too slow ;)
thaks for help people its put my mind at rest will leave it unplugged and get the oil leak sorted when I get it back hopefuly it will make it! Will be putting many more thread on here shortly im sure so look out for them!
Just one quick note what boost can the standard turbos take safely?
Does any other mods need to be done to the fueling if it is raised up a bit?
cheers

to does the car have an uprated ecu I have no idea and neither does the owner. WIll have a look at that when it gets back and goes for the once over down the road.

Just make sure the oil isn\'t dripping onto something hot like the exhaust.
I\'ve just fitted a Decat pipe to mine, i am planning on Blanking off the pipe that should run to the cat but for now its just zip tie\'d up and to be honist it doesn\'t alter the running of the car (but i am running in so i\'m driving with little load)
