Title: Fc steel wheels??
Post by: travellinbob on August 17, 2006, 04:38:41 PM
Do these exist? I was thinking that maybe egi\'s came with them but not sure. Is there any other type of wheel, brand that is, that have the same stud pattern as an fc?
just wanting 2 steel wheels for my car. (not space savers as they are too thin)
 cheers, michael.

In oz i think that a steel wheel off of a ford falcon is the same and they look quite good too. I should probably just get some alloys as there are som coming up really cheap at the mo. But I do like the extra cheapness of steelies and plus black steelies on a faded grey moggy would look quite mean!
Cheers for the measurements stu! Cant believe I didnt meet you at RSIII. Probably avoiding me :)
  cheers all, michael.

Might be worth checking what was available in the states, the entry level FC there had shocking wheels and single piston calipers - theres a chance the wheels were steelies :)

ol not a bad idea brett.  Also i have come accross a weird bit of termanology I dont know what it means. I saw a wide steel wheel in a ford magazine, e-mailed the editor type guy and he said it was a \'banded\' wheel. What does that mean??? anyone?  Maybe i oculd just use the centre of a fd space saver and have a new outer rim put oon to my specified offset and width. ( 9 inches sounds about right;) )
 cheers, michael.

they aren\'t legal in the UK as they are pretty dangerous if made badly. It\'s basically dissecting a standard steel wheel by cutting off one rim or both and then welding in a strip of material to make the wheel much wider but using the standard centre.

If I recall correctly the legal way to do this is to change the complete rim for a new one. Apparently summit in the states sell steel rims on their own for this purpose. Then it\'s a case of getting them welded in properly and ensuring they don\'t distort in the process!

Theres got to be an easier way ?

Yep you are right. There has to be an easier way. I will probably just trawl all of the vendors to see if I can find a cheapish set of 16 inch diameter rims. I dont like the look too much of stock fc wheels though. I can almost feel a new wanted add coming on.
 cheers, michael.

according to mazda the base model (S) Mazda 6 and Mazda 3 come with steel wheels that could be perfect, 15" 6J and highly likely to be 5x114.3 PCD. + If you are lucky most of the cars that come over to the UK will have them taken off at the dealer for alloys and they will have a load of them kicking about going spare. (it used to happen with MX5\'s and I\'ve got about 20 odd steelies for my rally car by asking for them to be put aside and paying slightly more than the scrap man does :) )

what about 323 ZXi wheels they are 5 stud, not sure if they are the correct offset ... might be worth a look if you don\'t like the FC ones.

ive seen loads of nice wide 15inch steelwheels for sale on driftworks usually made by weller or banded types and as for banded whels being illegal ive never heard of that one a few people i know have them and there are companys in england that can band your steel wheels aswell
