Title: Front bumpers (99 spec) hole behind number plate
Post by: Devil\'s Refugee on August 17, 2006, 08:32:56 AM
I noticed the other day that the 99 spec bumper has an elongated hole where the numberplate would fit over it.

Has anyone used this to increase airflow to the IC or engine bay ?

Some companies like do-engineering take advantage of it.
You can see how they do it on this page

Ah excellent. Thought I was just being silly. Will need to see what can be done, the 99 spec bumper is slightly different to the previous versions in how the numberplate housing is applied, but Do-Eng show that it\'s possible to flow the air where it could be make use of....

The hole is there to help air flow to the redesigned air tunnel, that takes the cold air to the air box. The pic on the do-eng link, is a Mazda pic, of how Mazda re-designed the post 99 air flow. In doing this, it allowed them to block off the hole in the IC cold air feed that the pre-99 air box would take its air from (i.e. a shared cold air feed). This meant that the airbox and IC in the post99 cars, had their own, dedicated air feeds. The redesign suposedly came about because of the infamous inter-heating effect with the car on full throttle.
