Title: Can somebody out there help me?
Post by: merlyn on August 15, 2006, 09:03:47 PM
First off, congrats on a fab forum :Party
i have just bought my first (of many i hope) RX7 3rd Gen. Great car - every bit as good as my sadly mourned TVR Chimaera 450 (no turbos but really did not need any).

anyway, i seem to have two probs with my Rex.

1. Driving home today, water temp all over the place - mainly up! Kept hitting the red then dropping down to normal running temp over only a few seconds each way (stock guage so can\'t put a figure on it). Not related to engine speed. In fact seemed to cool better when in lower gear with higher revs. Checked the oil, checked the coolant - both ok. Car has run no probs throughout the hot weather (yes, we even got it in Scotland!) and then today when the weather was cooler, cooling problems.
I\'m thinking this could be the thermostat or water pump but little experience of the car as yet. Still got the warranty though so hopefully can get it fixed without too much pain.

2. Ever since i have had the car, the seat-belt light has clicked on and off (loudly). Not a major problem other than the fact that the power windaes go up and down in steps in time with the clicking. It has stopped, briefly, twice at which point the windows worked fine and even the auto worked. Anybody has similar troubles and any ideas how to fix it?

Hi
Welcome to the site.Can\'t answer your first question, but i might be able to help with the second.
Disconnect the seat sensors, that should stop the seat belt light from working totally.You\'ll find the connectors under the seats.
Good luck..

Thanks - has a look at those but never disconnected both at the same time (doh!). Will give it a go.
Anybody got any thoughts on the old cooling troubles?

got the same prob (no 2) with mine. traced it to a relay box underneath the drivers side dashboard. the box in queston has 110 printed on it in big white letters. cant remember exactly, but it does control the seatbelt light and power windows. dont try ordering one from mazda tho, £150, stops the clicking, but doesnt have the window control circut needed. best bet is find someone who is breaking a 7, same as ill be doing when my car eventually gets back on the road. hope this helps

just tried disconnecting both seatbelt thingummywidgets - thank you for playing but sadly no cigar. Thanks for the suggestion Pete.
sorry to say you might be right Andy since the clicking certainly comes from the 110 box.

ANYBODY BREAKING A 7 3rd GEN?

HEY! I want that part! lol theres always a couple being broken, sure we\'ll both be able to find one. and its an easy fix too, just remove the plastic panel under the steering wheel, and that allows access to a single bolt (i think) then just unplug the wires replace and refit. obs a gud un!

dont worry, i was only joking, like i said, my cars off the road still, so if you find one, go for it. should defo work, i bought the one from mazda, missing the window relay/solenoid thingy. if you find one with 110 printed on the box, it should defo work

I would hope that the water temp gauage is dodgy as if it is accurate, then you probably cooked this engine! And depending on who the warranty is with, cooking the engine might not be covered! I sincelrely hope this aint the case!
