Title: Non Rotary, Popped Engine! Plz help
Post by: Stu.Wilson on August 14, 2006, 11:50:41 PM
Hi all, not sure where to post this.

I need some help, recently brought a T reg Golf Gti turbo as daily drive and went through big puddle (small bloody lake, more like!) and have sucked up loads of water into my engine and killed it. So need to replace it with a 2nd hand one or a recon one or even a new one. But thought i\'d see if anyone new of anywhere good to look or if any of the newer guys owned a VW and could recommend a good club to ask?

Any help would be great, as i don\'t want to throw my hard earned cash away. Many thanks,

Stu

Oops, diesels are very prone to that cos they scoop the air up from so low down.... sorry to hear it but hopefully someone on here can help you out.

Insurance normally covers this by the way, I have seen this happen on a number of occasions insurance has always paid out.

Suprising as its normally the 20,000 mile service intervals that break these engines   (and im not kidding!)

Cheers Gary, i\'ve found one. Looking at £1100 and that comes with the turbo aswell. It has 38k on it and is garaunteed for 3mnths unlimited mileage. Could ya see if your friend thinks it\'s a good buy. It\'s from a company called \'Prestiege\' never heard of them myself.

Cheers Stu

its its a normal 1.8T 20v you should get it for less than that

I just sold a rebuiilt engine for £700

sadly as the 20v engien is so sort after as they go into earlier golfs people demanding a bit for them :(

for that price i would expect the 225bhp engine from a TT or Cupra R etc and then just get the remap done ;)

He has an engine which is an AGU big bore, same as the original.Comes with all ancillaries inc turbo.

He mentioned that they are demanding good money due to being snapped up for the Mk1 and 2\'s.

He said he will supply and fit engine, fully serviced with new cambelt, oil, plugs with a 3 month engine warranty for £1400.

He is based in Sudbury/Ipswich

I can collect car with trailer and deliver it to him for a price also.

Pls email me at powerstakgg@yahoo.co.uk if interested.

yep AGU head is the big port head :) some 225 guys putting that head on theirs

and ur right there going into mk1, 2\'s and corrados like hot meals :(

now thats not a bad price £1400 all done :) when you think just worth doing as the cam belt royal pain to do on 20v\'s due to that tensioner lol

Right guys, thanks for all the help. I\'ve decided to go down the insurance route, as i am covered prior to what i thought.

Just really don\'t want to fork out all that money when i don\'t have too.

Cheers again
