Title: Remap blues
Post by: cannonballer on August 14, 2006, 06:44:03 PM
Well I was all excited about getting me remapped rex back cuz its not been running right since I bought it 4 weeks ago, only to be disappointed.
Its a whole lot better than it was but its still far from right.
Set off from traffic lights on full throttle, did about 30 foot then it nearly put me thro the windscreen as everything cut out momentarily.
I discovered after that it will only accellerate on two thirds throttle. Its had a new set of plugs and been given a clean bill of health (bonus).
Its peak power is only 320 and boosting at just over 0.8 but its a whole lot faster than me GTR 33 which was 350.
Do these symptoms ring any bells with anybody?
any response much appreciated.
Cheers
Andy

Sounds like you have boost cut programmed in to you ECU

From your description it sounds like fuel cut. If I were you I\'d take it back to whoever mapped it asap

sounds to me like it has a crazy lean spot in a section of the map. that is if it suddenly cuts. normally the engine note will drop out and it will pick up again afte it has cleared the cells.

or

it could be over fueled in this section. it would fart a lot as well....

or

3rd... you are coming with in 0.25 of the map sensor limit on the power fc. ( most people bull sh1t the setting and run a seperate boost controller )

Yup same symptoms exactly, mine only does it in 1st and second though, 3rd, 4th and 5th are great (thank you to my good friend for the map!!!!)

i rekon my problem is to do with something hard eg. plugs, injectors ect.ect.

im wondering if its got anything to do with having a Bosch 040 but no aftermarket FPR??

hmmmm

Well I took the rex back today to my mapster, he took it on a test drive and the fault didn\'t happen (of course).

He then turned the boost down to 0.8 and all seems to be running smoothly, goes like foook actually.

The only problem i\'ve got now is it keeps going round corners sideways.  How do I cure this?:Giggle

The big test will be Saturday when I take it to Blighton for a track day.

Get a good set of boots for it, check the tyre pressures and check your alignment. Are the shocks ok?

When all is well the back end should take a good nailing out of corners without letting go (in the dry).

Dont realy on a knock profile to show a lean spot. chances are it wont show much.

What fuel pump have you got and how much is normally in the tank when it happens?

I had severe problems with mine using an aftermarket pump (think it was a 040) on around 1/4 tank of petrol, straight line and round corners.  I Changed it for an apexi pump which seemed to solve it.

Rmaj-sent a pm.

Jon

The problem is due to the stock tank and the pump sucking the baffle dry.. its very common

Sway, do you think that this is a possible/probable cause??

This is the problem.... Thats why suge tanks and swirl pots are popular. When you increase supply the pump will drain the tank baffle very quickly. You need to stay above a 1/4 full tank. You could opt for a fuel cell to cure this but will loose your boot.

If you are on the stock fuel pump and injectors you would have to run the tank very low to induce this problem. Might be worth investigating the wiring to the pump though as this has been known to break down, after all these cars are mostly 10+ years old and things like wiring have a shelf life.

Problem solved, fuel starvation.

im running Bosch 040 with 850 primaries and secondaries.

filled the tank right up (it was on just over 1/4)...ta darrrrrrr!  no problems.
