Title: N/a
Post by: Matt J on August 11, 2006, 08:49:57 PM
Are there many N/A rotary\'s in the UK? just wondering if its cost effective compared with similar power via the turbo route? any of the tuners offer turn key N/A conversions and does anyone have any rough prices off hand? or woul dit be cheaper to get one built abroad and have it shipped over?

cheers.

Why do you want to go the N/A route?

There is a lot of work and cost to get good power from an N/A when the turbo route is quite easy to hit 300FWBHP on an FD, plus you get loads more torque on turbo.  Fuel wise, there is not much difference I believe.

Dont get me wrong, I understand the plus points of the N/A but I would always go turbo with the rotary! :D

Just my 2p though :wiggle

But as for the convirsion, have a word with the tuners above - I guess Pip @ WGT is your closest specialist.

Torque kills box\'s and diffs though, I thought having similar power as a blown motor would keep costs down on the transmission side of things.

What are the standard box/diff capable of taking in a blown 7? I see the aussie guy runs a 4 rotor n/a with 550+bhp and he\'s still on the standard box and diff, and he launch\'s like a mo-fo!

Dont be fooled by \'no torque\' on n\\a motors bro,I have just killed my box,no wheel spinning and driving like a tonker....sheer torque buddy, and the motor is muffled by a short intake and small air cleaner, but the grunt is there never the less.Good n\\a motors are a thrill to drive (brapping ones that is)..:Thumbs-up :Typing

I wasnt considering a 4 rotor, I just used it as an example of what can be done with the standard diff/box.

As much torque as N/A can put out, it cant match the torque of the same engine but blown  suerly

like for like I would GUESS, no, tubbie more torque.

When I was looking on the Racing Beat website they had a nice little chart saying what needs to be done for what sort of power.  I\'ll see if I can find it.......

N/A is good, Why!!
1/ no computer if you going for IDA 48/51 weber, less road road set-up, just use your ears to set up and it\'s cheaper.
2/  better exhaust sound than turbo.
3/ 200hp can make 200lb/ft depending on portings.
4/ lots lightest than turbo engine, so power to weight is high on n/a than a turbo.
5/ i can buy turbo car but what about it! ,not interesting!! , i am just stick to good old n/a with 48IDA weber.:InLove
6/ planning to install an 13B pp with racing beat\'s ally side housings( very light) with 51IDA to make 300hp+ in westfield car.:Laugh

Chimikui
Datsun 1200 20B peripheral port with Nitrous
7.77 @ 171mph
Worlds quickest and fastest non turbo rotary

NUFF SAID BRO!

How would the cost of this engine compare to a turbo motor of similar power? Dunno, but big turbo\'s aren\'t cheap, and as ian says... more weight.

That is quick! I have to say though NA cars are generally ludicrously loud. My 12a with a Janspeed exhaust is at times embarassing!

Too right, big silencers required. The Aussie\'s seem to swear by Rotaflo mufflers and resonators to keep noise levels down. On an all out race car though, LET HER SING!

Deffinately!

Didn\'t someone post up about the 787b being heard from the opposite side of the track during LeMans! :bandit

How cool is that! :Thumbsup!

Hi.Carl
Thanks, I will keep in my mind.
I have planning about it for years and I still stuck with an FC 13B bp (15 year ownership, one of the 4 Rx-7.).:2Rolleyes
It\'s sound a dream of mine and hope it will happen in near future with an westfield or ever better with a  DIY locost with FC drivetrain.
I am only using it for sprint/hillclimb, not dragracing.:2eek
It\'s didn\'t matter what sport I am enter as long I run the "rotary power":god .
