Title: Engine swap (questions)
Post by: Red Leader on August 09, 2006, 01:41:09 PM
Hi
I\'m carrying out an engine swap and have a few questions.

Both my old engine & the replacement are standard. Can i use my ecu or should i fit the from the other engine?

When the replacement engine is in, is a just case of plug everything in and start. Or do other things need to be done.

I\'ve heard that sometimes the new engine won\'t start does anyone know why this is (flooding etc) and how to aviod it.

Thanks

Ant

Well, the obvious thing I would say not to forget is when its all fitted and connected up, dont forget to put some oil in her and fill the coolant system up or it could end in tears ;) :D

And disconnect the fuel relay, then turn the engine over on the key for 10 or so seconds, it\'ll allow the oil pump to get a good bit of love to the engine :)

How much was your new engine if you don\'t mind me asking?

Cheers!

Hi

Its used with 47k on it so a little less in miles. Has reconed turbos, new clutch, serviced and compression tested (all above 7) 150 miles ago by WGT.
Its from a club member and its £1500.

Had my car 6 weeks covered 600 miles (brought from one of the venders above) when the rear rotor gave low compression reading, fuel become mixed with the oil and that then damaged the turbo seals. In short recon engine & turbos needed.
Was lead to belive from the wording in the add that the warranty was fully comp for complete peice of mind (what a load of rubbish) so going with the above option.

Hi Ant,

Am in Chipstead myself, might see you around some time.  Bad luck about the screwed engine.

Simon..

Thats not a bad price, I\'ve got so much work to do on mine I\'m tempted to buy a motor from a wrecked car and transplant it in, then I\'ll spend some time rebuilding my old one (not that it really needs it) :)

Sorry to hear about your woes :(
