Title: Problem with intercooler hoses
Post by: nikp on August 08, 2006, 10:43:29 AM
Ok, got my radiator and intercooler mounted back on last night. NEarly completely finished. However, it was only at this point that i could actually figure out what to do with the hoses. Before that, it had been a bit of guess work. As you can see, they don\'t exactly line up or look neat.

The intercooler was originally for the twin turbo setup, which is why it is currently like that. I\'m thinking that maybe the best option for me is to get the intercooler modified by a specialist fabricator, and get the inlet moved round so it points towards the turbo. Silly question, but what is the material that the intercooler is likey to be made from? Alluminium - i think this is what it is.

Anyone else with an opinion?

Cheers.

Yep if I was you take it to a alu specialist they will cut it and re-weld it how you want it and I would have it point straight at the turbo exit save u going over engine and make the boost pipe short which always a plus :)

definitely agree with the above...just try and get a look at previous examples of a compnaies tig welds before you commit.

should be loads, just look in yellow pages. I normally get my stuff done by marine engineers as they use aluminium and stainless loads so always worth giving them a try as there should be loads around your area.

Hi mate - yeah, i replied on the \'other\' forum, but not here! Yup, dropped the intercooler off this morning, and they said that would be no problem. Very helpful, and listened to my requirements. Also tried to help with their v-mount that they are doing.

Saw your FD there, and he said he\'s still waiting on a core - which must be very frustrating for you!

why didnt you get the output end of the intercooler done at the same time

surely tight bends like that arent good

Because it has to fix on to the end of the standard plastic elbow that fixes to the throttle body. So there\'s no choice about that.

But a future project is likely to include a custom made elbow and re-configured output of the intercooler for smoother flow.

What with a rebuild, convertion to single turbo, purchasing wastegate for said turbo, numerous other bits and pieces, the intercooler modification, and now my exhaust needs replacing, i don\'t really have funds for the greddy elbow! In time, something will be done, but not on the top of my list of priorities!! :)

thats a nice intercooler mind what is it ?

have you removed your air con aswell ?

Air con is gone. The intercooler is part of the V-mount kit as sold by Dragon. The problem was, i had to get it modified for my single turbo because it was meant for a twin setup before.
