Title: jap sony headunit - has inputs but can\'t figure out how to select them as source?
Post by: Juz on August 07, 2006, 03:10:32 PM
the japanese sony headunit (wx-c800md) that came in my car appears to have several inputs on the rear, but i\'m struggling to work out specifically what they are for or how i can use them.

ideally i want to be able to use rca phonos or 3.5mm from my mp3 player, and although i have a uk singledin heatunit which i know how to use i\'d rather keep the jap unit to save me having to get an iso convertor block and having the speaker amps bypassed.

i know that the phonos in the top right of the rear are outputs, but the ones in the bottom right say "bus in"? i tried plugging my source into these and playing, but cannot find any way on the headunit to make it use this?

there also seems to be 2 sockets in the bottom left next to the aerial sockets, one a 3.5mm and one what looks like a small usb!??! i was wondering if anybody could decypher what any of the writing on the diagram for them says for me please?

in addition, there is a weird small box on a cable coming out of the back of the unit (top left picture) which says DC/DC on it, but has no other sockets on it and i\'ve no idea what this is? and then there\'s the switch on the side of the headunit with (B) and (A) and i don\'t know what this does? would rather not switch it without knowing what it is first, in case it smokes my cars electricals or something :)

i know it\'s a longshot, but hopefully somebody can give me a few pointers here to get me started?

if its the same as the earlier uk ones the only way to use the inputs is with a CD changer and an RCA splitter. CD changer triggers the head unit to switch to the input on the bck and then you switch to the MP3 player, people have also used CD\'s with silence recorded on them to save having to switch over rca cables. I think only the new head units have the correct function to use the inputs without. Can\'t remember what is was called ... somthing lite IIRC (found a load of info on google)

Dunno if this helps but on the left circle the top line says:

Remote Input

under that it says:

FM Con Something (need to be able to see the little marks on the katakana) to Output

In the right circle it says pretty much what the outputs say they are:

Bass Input

Bass Controller Input

The swith at the top says its a power selector switch or something. It says something about if the ignition accessory switch isn\'t (something can\'t see the Kanji properly) then the switch should be on B

Which is nigh on useless to you ;)

thanks for the efforts guys, much appreciated! i tried the headunit plugged in to all sorts of things in all sorts of ways and couldn\'t get it to feed any aux through so have given up on it now lol :) and then out of the blue my brother spotted a mazda -> iso block converter on the cheap so i got the old uk single din unit out and after a fiddle have brought it back to life, and discovered that my speakers in this rx7 either don\'t need, or must already be amp bypassed as i plugged it in and it worked :D doh!
