Title: Tyre question
Post by: framey on August 04, 2006, 01:41:04 PM
Hi Chaps,
just a quickie re tyre sizes please. Not too clued up on these so would like some advice.

I have bought some 17x8" wheels off ebay and the tyres are pretty near the limit.
I already have some alloys which have 255/45\'s and 225/45\'s. These are really good tyres and I was thinking I might swap them around.

The new wheels exsisting tyres are 255/40 & 235/40.

Am i right in thinking 255\'s are too wide for 8 inch rims?

What size would you suggest (width)?

Thanks

I wouldn\'t go bigger than a 235 on a 8" wheel. You can squeeze 255\'s on but handling would definitely be comprimised I\'m afraid :(

Thanks Fro,
I was thinking the same.

Maybe I\'ll go for 235\'s on the rear ans 225\'s for the front.
Do you have any preferences wrt the profile? 40/45\'s etc etc?

Thanks

225/45 17 is nearest to the original 225/50 16s in diameter (and would be fine on 8" rims). I have 235/45 17 front and rear on mine at the moment, it\'s done a couple of track days like that and it\'s fine (and fun) :)

There is a lot of rim width information here.
It\'s Goodyear, but I suspect good general info. click on tyre model.
