Title: My first starting prob
Post by: johnf on November 09, 2003, 05:30:36 PM
For the first time in 10 months it won\'t go

Ok I\'ve read lots of posts about flooding, is this what I\'ve done?

\'98 car and it\'s started first time every time for the 10 months I\'ve had it until today.

Backed it out of the garage and when I went back to it - 2hrs later it won\'t fire.

It turns over and gives the odd attempt to go.

I never start it with any throttle and I\'m reluctand to pump the gas.

I\'ve left it for another hour and still no go.

Whats the best course of action now?

Thanks

John

are you trying to tell me that now i\'ve order a car after u seduce me that the rex is actually a lemon  only kidding sorry to hear of yer first troubles, as u well no i have no hands on experiance wot so ever so ignore me with pleasure but i recall u said previously u did do mainly short journeys without any problems so dunno if a few longer bursts may help ;)
I presume you\'ve seen the flooded car starting thread here (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=604)  U seemed pretty knowledgeable & i recall u did most the work yerself so i guess takin plugs out is no issue?
Out of interest which spark plugs do you use?
Anyway good luck with that, if you need me to bring the mondeo round & give ya a tow technique say the word.......?

Lol si \'I don\'t beleive it\' I\'m not sure it is flooded, no fuel smell.

I tried the jump leads [seemed the easiest] no go

Thought about a tow but can\'t find the front tow hitch :(  in the dark and rain.

Pushed it back into my nice warm, dry garage. What\'s the chances of it staring in the morning?

Read the \'flooded\' post, did someone post a quick fix by clamping the fuel line with mole grips?

John, heres what I would try:

1)Hold acellerator to the floor. Now turn key and crank engine for about 3 seconds. If it does not start, then stop cranking.

2)Now try it again with no throttle for about 2 secs.

repeat 1 + 2 about 3 or 4 times before your start messing with plugs and things.

Also, pumping has no effect on anything, as our cars are Fuel injection. Pumping the accelerator only squirts fuel if you have a carburretor.

I am trying to find your number so I can phone you.;)

Arrgh mine wouldnt start just now leaving work for lunch.  Got it going in the end by giving it a bit of throttle but I was worried it wouldnt start.

Im concerned now its not going to start properly again.  Id like to not think it was an engine problem.  I hope not anyway seeing as it only has 6000 miles on it.

Crunch time, I have to go back to work now...

Well its all sorted.

Tried towing it without any joy and as it was booked in for a service I got a mate with a recovery truck to take it the short distance to Hurley in coventry.

They phoned and said it was flooded and the most likely reason being my battery was low and therefore not giving enough \'umph\' when I tried to start it.

Sounds reasonable to me so - keeping the battery in good nick goes on my list.

Going to need front pads soon - whats the best deal you\'ve had?
