I know it aint exactly the biggest problem in the world, but the horn on my FD has stopped working. I have a Momo wheel and everything has always worked fine. I managed to damage the horn button a while ago and thought i\'d replace it to stop the thing sticking in and scaring people!:Grrr
After fitting the new button it didn\'t work, and old button now doesn\'t work either, and touching the spade conector to the boss directly also produces no sound.
I\'ve checked the fuse marked "hazard" and its fine. All other internal fuses are fine. A blown fuse was noted under the engine bay, this was replaced, but no horn (dont know what the hell it was for!).
The horn conectors are all still in place too.
Tried searching under horn threads on the forum and on RX7.com, but nowt! Anyone got any thoughts? Are there any other fuses I should try, or has the horn itself ramdomly stopped working for some reason?!:3Confused
Chris :)
If memory serves me right the horn button actually completes the circuit to ground.
Just a thought in case you were trying to connect to a live feed?????
Try earthing the spade, or at least see if there are any volts at the spade.
Apologies if I\'m tryint to teach you to suck eggs!!
Hi fella,
Yep tried earthing the spade, but no luck. Will try the multimeter on the spade though.
Its weird for it just to stop working with no blown fuse or damaged conection.
Chris
It might be that when you fiddled the wires you might have blown the horn unit itself........ as normaly the horns dont have a fuse cos they are not on for any period (in my experiance, and also they normaly have a permenant live feed!!
Jono
yeah - connect the horn up directly to the battery - see if it sounds. Then at least you\'ll know one way or another if they work. Then you can troubleshoot from that point.
Stupid question, but where is the horn?
I know its somewhere behind the front bumper, with access maybe gained via the airduct, however i\'ve got two oil coolers and space is tight!
Any thoughts lads?
Chris
It\'s next to the oil cooler on the passenger side, right at the front.
Just off topic a bit - Isn\'t the standard horn cr*p.
You drive around in a car that goes as well as it looks and then you need to sound the horn - I get embarassed.
It is a bit pathetic
Meep meep, I\'m a little shopping car.......... Thats gonna blow you in to the weeds!!!:Giggle

I guess I don\'t have a standard horn then, as mine is a two tone somewhat beefier sounding one.
Anyway, I had a similar problem with the horn not working. In my case it turned out to be that the wires to the steering wheel had snapped because the rotary-contacts-thingy on the steering column wasn\'t used after putting the aftermarket wheel on.
To begin with I tested the horn by pulling out the horn relais, and shorting the two bigger contacts in the box. When shorted the horn should work. This relais is located in the relais box in front of the airfilter.
(The relais has 4 contacts, 2 bigger and 2 smaller ones, the 2 bigger ones are connected by the relais when it is powered : DON\'T short the smaller ones as that will blow the hazards fuse {don\'t ask how I know, lol})
As the standard horn switch is connecting to the wheel for ground as far as I know, I\'m not sure whether the following is standard wiring.
The wiring to the steering column is through a white 3 wire connector underneath the dash/steering column. After that connector the wires go to the 3-pole rotary contact thingy to bring the wires to the steering wheel.
The horn signal wire is green /w orange stripe (this is standard colour), which should be grounded by pushing the horn button. Also there is a black one which is ground. I wired these two through the rotary thingy to the wheel/horn switch. And now the horn works.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, this seems to be the same way that my own horn is wired. I once damaged a conector causing the horn to stop working, but this time the conections and wires look fine.
Time to get the multimeter out, or test it by shorting the relay.
Cheers :)
