Title: AON what would you do??
Post by: dwarfslapper on August 02, 2006, 12:11:52 AM
I took out a classic car policy with AON back in December with a 5000 mile limit which i have nearly done so i gave them a call to see if i could up the miles.which went like this
Me.. can i up the miles
AON.. no
Me.. well there must be somthing we can do??
AON... dont drive it! its not supposed to be a daily runner
Me.. Well thats not an option and i have a van for work so its not
Aon... hang on i will talk to the manager........yep you can have 2500 more for an extra £456.50
Me.... ok in that case i will cancell it and start again as it only cost me £589 so i can get another 5000 miles
AON...we will not insure you again before the end of the year
Me...mmmm i will get back to you:(

so what would you do if you were me???

Thats outrageous!  I\'d be inclined to phone around a few companies and see what prices you can get for a years policy - Footman James are meant to be good.

Is that on a classic car / limtied mileage policy ?  It should be remembered that second car policies (as opposed to main) do tend to be cheaper.

I know I ended up insuring both my MX5 and RX-7 as mains as I was not sure which the greater mileage would be done on.

check the policy wording as you may find that the only consequence of your mileage exceeding the limit is an increased policy excess should you have a claim.  It may be worth just carrying on and paying an increased excess should the worst happen.

The price i payed was great and have no problem with AON i was not aware of the over inflated price it would cost me to keep using the car till the renewal £589.50 + £456.50= £1046   which i am sure i can get a cheaper quote even if it was used as a daily driver

So the moral of this story is cheaper is not always best

Thanks Johnf i am looking into it:Thumbs-up :spank

My opposing neighbour reversed in to my MX-5 (which is also insured through AON) and her insurers started playing up - suggesting she was not covered.  AON sorted out all the hassle for me and helped me get my excess back.
