i got no help in the general section so thought id post here as it seems more specific. This relates to the wiring that goes to the alternator and ignition amp in my car. (sort of links 2 harnesses through the igntion amp)
I checked the wiring and after stripping away some black protection plastic stuff this is the only bit that looks dodgy, it may be standard but i want to check first. This plug is the one that connects to my HKS ignition amp (not sure where it connects to originally).

closer pic although a little blury:

It looks very strange as there is a thick grey cable with the ignition cables inside them. These are white/red , white/black and white/green. Then there is an exposed bit of wire that seems to go back on itself. and connect to a black cable. I dont understand why this is like this and it looks compretly out of place in a car wiring loom. This makes me think its none standard. The only thing is though is that its tied up with the rest of the loom, so mazda must have put this there.
can someone help and just let me know if this is standard or ifthe wiring harness has been tampered with. The worrying thing about this is that there was some yellow electrical tape around it like someone has fiddled with it before. And where the single cables come out of the big grey one the sheething on them has cracked exposing the copper inside. If these had touched then id have guessed it would send all funny signals to the coil packs or ECU etc.
that is your main power wire to the coils. if this has touched earthed our to any thing you would get kess power to the coils (thus less spark power) when they touched. also looks like the power pin is falling out off the plug
ok, so what is the exposed bare metal that folds back on itself used for? And also which one is the power pin.
the black and white wire that goes into the four pin black plug. the exposed bit is where the power is split to coils and ignitor. If I rember correctly
ok keep with me though cjr, as im finding info on this very limited. if the black and white wire is the power for the coils what are the other 3 wires for in that plug??
after looking at the manuals for ages:

(diagram on G16)
it seems that the black one is not a power but earth cable. The three white cables supply the "B pins" to the 3 coils, from the ignitor and relay. Is that what you figure??
This also ties in with what matt said to me from rxmotors, but when i look on the car the wires are too well hidden still for me to see where they actually go
