Title: Rebuild the clutch master cylinder and fit braided hose
Post by: grinder on July 28, 2006, 08:25:08 PM
Hiya

due to the clutch peddle sticking to the floor once i got the uprated clutch fitted - i was told that i needed to rebuild the clutch master cylinder and it wasnt sealing right

so few quick calls and a kit was winging its way to me from WGT for about £25 - £30

whilst i was doing this , i decided to fit a stainless steel braided clutch hose ... might aswell as it all had to come out to fix anyways - this was about £18 delivered from mazdatrix and took about 4-5 days to arrive

this isnt asmuch a write up - more a photo journal

Ta

This is some of the tools

the sryinge was borrowed from work ( you can buy these from boots i think to give kids medicine ) - this was used to remove the old fluid so that it didnt get on the paint work

i have removed the line - i used a 10mm flared nut wrench to do this as not to ruin the nut

this is the cylinder removed

you have to remove 2 nuts from where the clutch peddle is - i think they were 12mm or 14mm

best way is to lie in the drivers seat upside down with your feet on the parcel shelf

this is the end on the gear box

couldnt get in with a flared nut wrench - so used a 17mm spanner ( i think )

didnt matter if we damaged it - as i was fitting the new pipe

this is the end on the bulk head

use a 10mm flared nut wrench on one end and a normal spanner on the other ( cant think of the size )

New pipe fitted - ooooohhhh shiney :D :D

put everything back where you found it and fill with clutch fluid - before putting the TMIC back on - bleed the clutch and there isnt a lot of room with the TMIC back on - the bleed nipple can be seen in pic 10 - you need a 8mm spanner for this

we did this in an evening - so couple of hrs tops

thanks for reading

I ordered the complete master and slave cylinders complete from USA for about £60 inc of shipping. Saves the hassle if the bores are scores and scratched which most are.

Looks like you were doing so, but with all hydraulic work on interiors of cylinders, valves etc., you need as much care and cleanliness as a surgeon. Any pre lubrication of parts has to be done with new brake fluid as the lubricant. In other words contamination is the big danger and is a big No-No.
Hope you don\'t mind me stressing all the above Grinder - just to add a bit, (I don\'t want to take away from a great thread).
