Title: Recommended CAT1 Alarms/ Immobs
Post by: Devil\'s Refugee on July 28, 2006, 09:46:03 AM
Bit of a generalist post this, since everyone will have their own preferences, but looking for some guidance as to good Cat1 alarms/ immobilisers. Not looking for massive features like total closure, but something which is good value and fairly functional. Price not really an issue to secure the car properly (but nothing silly please)

I dunno what prices are like on new Cliffords but my Concept 350 is good :) Just need to get remote central locking sorted and I\'ll be happy!

It\'s nice as well as I can fit lots of optional stuff if I really want to instead of it being some feature I\'ll never use.

Had a Laserline fitted recently, and it does what I want for good value, remote central locking was a nightmare but now have a shallower pocket on the drivers side door which I think is fine :D

to be honest, I\'ve not had experience of it myself, but am just about to..

I pick up my FD on Sunday and need to get an alarm/immob fitted ASAP.

In my opinion all alarms are the same, you can pay £300 for one, which just does the same as a £35 from ebay, ( apart from adding total closure , Battery Backup etc,

All depends if its fitted properly.

End ofthe day,  if a door is opened, it sends a signal to the alarm box, which kicks a relay in, and sounds the siren,

If a window is broken,  the ultrasonics picks this up, and sends a signal to the alarm box, which kicks a relay in, and sounds the siren,

You decide :)

I just fitted Remote start, The  alarm sounds if doors are open/ kicked/jacked up/break a window/ cut me roof/also a  immobiliser, and Microwave sensor,  and it cost me the grand total of £40.

But if you need Cat1 / Cat2 then the certificate adds a stupid amount to the cost, my fitter quoted me £325 for Cat 1 and something £120 for non thatcham approved...

Something to do with battery backup and an installers cert with the cat 1 / cat 2... And it needs to be installed by an authorised installer so you can\'t do it your self either :(

Bit of a bummer really...

My mate does cat 1`s for £260 fitted  complete with certificate.

Some insurance companys say that you have to have a cat1, so ur snookered.  but if ur fitting one just to get low insurance, you only get about £50 off anyway,

When I was looking for an alarm I wanted a Cat 1 with immobilser, something simple but no extra fancy stuff. I was told Sigma were very good and reliable so went with this. Cost me £320 with fitting done at my house :)

I\'ve had cheap alarms before and they have been useless , in my experience you get what you pay for

I always go with Clifford and usually get it fitted by GAP , I trust them and they do a good clean job , think I paid about £600 for my concept 650 was but its spot on , and a few extra toys to boot

At the end of the day if your like me and your car is your pride and joy then you don\'t want it going walkies , remember no-one pays attention to a siren anymore its immobilisers that make the difference

Maybe I\'m just a mug falling for a sales pitch and a fancy advert but if I feel happy leaving my car parked up nowing that even if someone breaks in it will still be there or if someone tries highjacking me I know there not going very far then I think its worth it

Clifford, Full Stop, and it must include Blackjax (anti Hijack)

Display the stickers too, no-one but a pro will go near your car.

If a pro wants your car, it\'s as good as gone anyway.

Blackjax (anti Hijack) is a pain in the bum but the one time you need it it\'s priceless.
