hey... i am new on the site and i went to pay a depoit for my RX7 thats on the way soon... its conv to single turbo but no dump vavle... how and where will i fit one on??? easy job? hard job?
unless its a GT series ball bearing unit dont fit one
compressor stall aka chatter sounds sooo much better and you get better throttle response !

Why d\'you say that? What\'s the reasoning behind that?
they dont like stalling i have seen BB turbos with snapped mainshafts.
I much prefer driving without a BOV tho
mines a oil cooled tub and the chatter is gorgeous. planning an upgrade to a BB soon so will have to get the dumpvalve as stated above why
make the most of not having one. if u do want one they are easily installed
there are allways for and against options of having one the main reason for using a BOV is to increase turbo life.
A faulty dump valve that for examples stays open can cause turbos to over spool and therefore go faster than they should also increasing chances of turbo failure.
In my opinion tho i much prefer driving without a BOV throttle response feels soo much better.
So what type of turbo do you have Craig?
Only reason i ask, is i have a BB turbo, and will be running without a dump valve - but depending on whether i get scared enough, i\'ll get a dump valve!
I\'ve heard a simalar thing about the smaller B/B turbo\'s. It would seem they use a Thinner shaft to save weight etc from the rotating assembly but in turn made it weaker than the older more Agricultural T series.
But!! From what i\'ve heard from Guys who work at Allied signal (Garrett) the smaller Shaft is only in the Turbo\'s Gt30 and below, The only real reason the Shafts fail is fatigue, the 0-100,000 rpm and back speed on a gear change, all a BOV does is lets the Turbo slow down more Gradualy rather than Forced to stop. Its not a good thing in and Turbo to run it without a BOV but unless you are running Big Boost its not going to hurt you.
Echo all the above, but an open dumpvalve won\'t cause the turbo to overspool. The car will idle like a pig if at all due to major air/boost leak, a closed shut wastegate will cause the turbo to overspool and more than likely damage the engine, but I digress :)
Fwiw I\'ll be running dumpvalveless on my single unless I eventually end up running big boost.

Not quite true
on some cars the standard ecu controls boost be it thru an AMAL type valve or even Air injectors. If a dumpvalve is open under load pressure will be escaping instead of making it into the engine, the ecu would try and compensate by holding the wastegate shut thus increasin boost for that bit longer. All this done in a split second is not good for the turbo.
but i digress also.
All my experience is from Ford Cosworths tho so i maybe talking compete tosh.
back to the main subject tho, if you do fit a dumper make sure its a decent one. By that i mean can flow enough air. HKS with there flanges are pretty good etc, Bailey ones however have a very small pipe which for our cars running large turbos is not good they are much more suited to Renault 5s etc.
Nick i currently am running standard atm but will be looking to go GT35 very soon.
I have just upgraded to the GT35R. But what with a frest rebuild and upgrading to the turbo too, funds are stretched! I\'m probably going to run it in without a dump valve, and then see where to go from there.
