Title: Help with HKS twin plate clutch
Post by: dturpin on July 27, 2006, 04:14:00 PM
Hi everyone, hope all who werent working and got to go to JEA had a good time.
I have finally got my engine in and running, went to put it in gear and it wouldnt go.  Its a 92 FD, its got a HKS twin plate clutch fitted, when I rebuilt my engine I replaced the plates in the clutch, as I didn\'t but the clutch, was on the car when brought.
I am basically wondering if anyone else has fittd one and has the instructions that they could possibly send a copy to me, cant seem to find one on the net anywhere.  Or tell me where I could get some from.

does it go into gear when the engine is not running?

have you checked that the outer plate of the clutch has clipped back onto the thrust bearing on the gearbox. if this isnt done the clutch wont engage via the slave cylinder as its not pushing anything.
can do it with your hands via the inspection plate near the clutch slave (not one on the bottom of the box) you\'ll feel it clip in.

hope this helps

The bearing is engaged in the plate as far as we can see, when the pedel is pressed the first plate goes loose but the second one stays tight.
The car goes into gear when the engine is not running, and if you try to start the car with it in gear and the clutch down it jolts forward.
We are not sure if we have got one of the plates the wrong way around or something.
Is it a fairly easy job to do the clutch by dropping the gear box out, really dont want to have to take the engine out again.

Sounds like what happened to me:2eek it turned out that the plate was on the wrong way! I would say that it is much easier dropping the box than taking the engine back out. Only take you an hour or 2 with high enough axel stands. The hardest bit is trying to get that flywheel nut off, but im not sure you would have to do that ? I think you will be safe;)

Thanks for the help.  Can you remember which plate it was that you had the wrong way around?

Im not sure, i dont want to say on here which one i think it was and look silly:D , if you pm Wav (paul) he will know as he was the fellow that told me;) :2Rolleyes, you can tell if its not on right by the inspection hole thing near the clutch slave thing (not the one on the bottom of the box), he had a look and could tell that it wasnt touching!!!but that was a standard clutch tho, but your symptoms sound the same as mine:3Confused
