Title: Air Con Wierdness
Post by: Jit on July 27, 2006, 11:09:13 AM
All this talk of Air Con and hot weather has got me thinking...wouldnt it be nice if my air con actually worked!

Basically, when you switch the aircon on, the car doesnt get any coooler inside....infact the only thing that does happen is that the idle starts to hunt between 1000rpm and 1500rpm...

Any ideas whats causing this!?

Cheers!

yes i do....why?

When u install the power fc first u have to let it learn the idle while running the air con and the back window heater etc.. This prob wasnt dont...

Wasnt done on mine and this was happening so i took it out :wiggle The air con that is.....

No man not the ECU the air con i took out...

If u turn the car on and the air con and let it learn the idle it shud start workin again... The power fc supports everything the standard ecu supports... ie air con...

Unless the air con has just suddenly stopped working, it\'s possible the system just needs regassing. You should expect to pay around £50 for a mobile service to do it (they will check for leaks at the same time)

would a system in need of regassing exhibit those symptoms?

No it\'ll just stop workin... Not completely just the air is not as cold....

Would have though it quite possible, as the aircon will effect the idle revs of the car as it cuts in and out and the fact that it needs gassing and is therefore not producing any cold air doesn\'t mean that trying to run the aircon isn\'t loading the engine.

thats what i thought! Could it (simple as it sounds) be that the air con simply isnt plugged into the pump?!

Andy - i now you took the aircon out but since my car is running a stock cat, aiirbox and exhaust, i figured it would be safer and better to run my car on a stock ecu but with water injection and a slightly thicker core rad rather than on the pfc...just my personal preference as i like to have a stock engine running safely! I would like to keep thhe aircon especiallly when i remembering the sweltering temps when i went to le mans last year with no air con and one window jammed shut!

I wouldnt imagine so lad... At least with the power fc u can adjust the ignition to suit fuel standard 1 wont..

And it will run with the power fc!! Only reason i took it out was i bent the air con pulley....

And yea if ur heading to le mans ul need it!!!

thats why im running the water injection to help even things out somewhat so its there as a safety net....

The stock ecu will sort out ALL your problems. Let me know when you\'re ready to swap :yes

depends how little gas is in the system?

if its just enough to turn the pressure switch on then it will activate the compressor clutch and kick the fans in as normal but wont actually get cold. the engine will be under load tho, so could cause hunting with Power FC?

if the system is completely empty then the compressor and fans wont cut in so no extra load would be put on the engine?

if the compressor and fans dont cut in try and bridge the pressure switch connector with the engine running and see if it works then? if so it could just need a regas?

If the system is depressurised, the compressor won\'t cut in but the fans still run.

surely the fans are linked to the compressor by the relay so will only work if the compressor does?

i\'ve removed the aircon from my FD so am only going from previous HONDA experience?............

QuoteAs far as I remember, the fans are triggered by the AC button even if the system is depressurised but the compressor won\'t run. It was years ago when mine needed gassing though so I could well be wrong :)
