Stock wise, I think there\'s hardly and difference at all, something like 0.1 seconds between the two all through the ranges.

JSpec\'s less BHP than UK mkiv but either one you should be able to keep with, esp when ya get to a corner *hehe*

a stock fd should have no problem in keeping  ahead, should have a video soon, I hope from santa pod were I was 200 meters adhead of a 525 bhp supra that had a figure dyno proven. He was a members friend.

Supra  326bhp, 325lbs/ft torque 0-60= 5.1, 0-100= 12.3,  1/4mile= 13.7@105mph, 0-1000m= 24.7@135mph.  1549kgs.

Rx7 R1 255bhp, 217lbs/ft torque 0-60= 5.3, 0-100=13.9ish, 1/4mile= 13.9@100mph, 0-1000m= 25.7(ish). 1270kgs.

Supra would be around 20 metres in front after a kilometre.

Thought Supra\'s were in on the 280 bhp maximum rule, no?

Surely 326 bhp is not stock?

Wasn\'t it the UK ones that had more power?

UK ones are listed as 326.  Not too sure on what the Japs listed it as, maybe 280 but theres not likely to be much difference in it.

I know R34 GTR\'s tend to be about 340 despite the tin saying 280 ;)

On our way to a rolling road day there was practically nothing between my FD (street port & PFC) and a mates stock Supra (30(ish) to 140mph).

Rollers said:
FD (manual) - 228bhp
Supra (auto) - 323bhp (it was either 323 or 326, can\'t remember which though)

Draw your own conclusion..

I was gutted about my power figure (put down to dead cat), but I think he was even more surprised than me.

what boost were ya running dude?
Title: supra v\'s rx-7
Post by: Robertio on November 06, 2003, 09:49:20 PM
Just 0.6bar.  This was a few months back, about 2 weeks (2.5k miles or so) after getting it back from its rebuild.  Midpipe is now on, backbox goes on on Saturday followed by a bit of mapping then back up to the rollers on a week Sunday.  Still running the same boost should make 280, so I\'m hoping anyway.

Im running 1bar, and compared to stock its pretty savage when it kicks in (but oh so much better).  Especially the 2nd turbo - have to be carefull when that comes in as im wheelspinning in the dry in 2nd on boost, in a straight.  Must change those tyres :D

Re Amemiya I believe, its not got a boost controller or anything just running that boost straight from the ECU.  Assume its just a straight replacement on the stock ECU but probably set up to be right for the car.

As I understand it to run much above stock boost levels either WI (Water Injection) or a decent uprated Intercooler is needed.

I\'ve been advised that runnong 0.9 bar on stock setup is okay though.

Im sure mines ok anyway seeing as its obviously been like this for some time, plus its had an engine rebuild and it wouldnt have been left like this if it would cause problems.

It seems pretty clever too.  The other day I was desperate so had to get Sainsburys fuel (still 97 Super, I just done like the stuff).  What do I find upon driving it later.  It wont make any more than 0.5 bar boost and feels rough.  So we use all the Sainsbury fuel and get some Optimax, and somehow it just starts boosting normally again.  Still managed to pass a friends new S14 which he got that day running a bit rough :D

Has anyone got figures of the two with some real world road speeds, like 50 - 70, or 70 - 90! Would be really interseting to see what those are, i have a 3rd gen as my own car but am trading a supra tt (auto though) at the moment and the rex just seems soooo much quicker. 0 - 60, 0 - 100 times are good to know but how often do you get to just acelerate to 100+ mph, real road speeds for me seem more to be out of corners or overtaking, even 50 - 100 would be interesting. Anyone got these specs to hand.

Supra stats.
30-70mph   4.7
60-100mph   7.2

RX7 stats
30-70mph    just over 5 i think.
60-100mph   8.6

p.s. my mx5 \'feels\' faster than my dads 200sx. But its a much firmer ride than the nissan. The same for  the supra and rx7. In all reviews comparing them back in the day its generally accepted that the supra was a \'lot\' faster, but not as firm and therefore tight in the twisties. They got similar lap times on tracks, the rx winning on tighter circuits.

I have only raced about 5, and one must have been an NA, but the RX-7 launches and seems to get to 80 or quicker I reckon cos its lighter
The lardy supra is bloody hard to keep up with after that but its possible

Its all talk anyway cos every car is modded different

when running 1 bar are you on standard injectors ? standard intercooler or front mount ?
Whats your fueling like ?

Not gonna start a "are you sure thats safe" thread as you know your car but was just interested ?

Cheers

My 1 bar is on standard injectors (I think, dont know but no reason to suspect otherwise).  Also on the stock IC.

It does have an re-amemiya ecu however, which is where the 1 bar is coming from and not a nasty bleed valve or something.  I have no idea what the fuelling is like, because the only extra guage I have is a boost guage.

My car is quick though :D   Running really well.  Since I have owned it not a single thing has gone wrong (door handle excluded), thats about 6k miles now.  I do oil changes etc all the time though (5 oil changes in them 6000, but I really like to make sure its going to be fine on track etc and dont chance it).

The engine still only has 9k on it, and was rebuilt over here just before I bought the car.  The way I see it, it wouldnt have been rebuilt like this and warrantied if it wasnt going to be safe.

Cheers

It was done be RE:Worx, but I think it would have been Carl that actually built the engine.
