By a little tiny Lotus thingy, quite a new one, i couldn\'t get close enought to see which model, but a bit like a go kart with a canvas roof, just started raining, i came up behind him just at the beginning of a motorway off the roundabout, i should have been on the ball and realised he was flooring it early by what sounded like an F1 car launching! so then it was catch up, and i couldn\'t, 90mph my new wipers were lifting off the screen and bouncing about! i couldn\'t see a thing so had to slow down, he just went, must have better wipers too! but i knew i would never have got him, ohh the shame. well peed off! but then i have still never red lined it yet!
Bob
Tut tut, you\'re supposed to redline at least once everytime you drive it. :Nono!
Those Elises are quick though, around 4.9 secs to 60mph and he might have been running a few mods..
sounds like an Exige, the Elises ain\'t overly quick really
did it look kinda like this?

Hi,
No shame needed the elise (with canvas roof) is a very nippy little car and light as a go kart!
I had a little play with one the other day and kept up no probs but had no chance of overtaking at all!
However, the shame came in when neither of us could overtake this blasted little 106 ralye who spotted our game and joined in from the front!! :(
I was quite impressed but the elise driver gave him the birdie! :spank
I like understated cars that go like stick and that is my only problem with the Rex; it looks quick!!
Still all fun :Thumbs-up
Oh no....... time for a few mods then!!!!!
A mate of mine ownes the prototype of the Mk1 exige but without the wing & stuff so it looks like a standard elise (1 previous owner "Lotus") and that thing is like a rocket ship!!!! you should of had them both after 120 though as the rover K series engine is only good for about 125 130 & the rallei pug well....... I\'m saying nothing, or rather I cant say anything as I\'ve had a Corsa B giving me some greif.... heard it coming from miles away with it\'s backed bean tin sticking out the rear!!! dont know what the owner had done, but it was quick untill 60 then started to pull away!!!
Jono
Don\'t feel ashamed mate - those things are fecking quick. I used to have a S2 Elise. A friend had a Sapphire Cosworth, rolling roaded at 400bhp, he couldnt shake me upto 80. Around roundabouts/corners he didnt have a chance. Mine was only the base model - 125bhp. And who knows what you were up against:
111s - VVT with 160bhp
The new Elise 111r has 189bhp - and only weighs about 700kg! With a few mods and they breach the 200bhp mark. Some of the guys in the club have fitted superchargers and turbos - then you can get to 250bhp +. Some even put Honda Vtec lumps in!
As mentioned, it could of been the Exige (fixed hardtop, usually has a GT style spoiler on the boot) They have just brought out a supercharged version - 240bhp standard if I remember right.
Holy pooo!!!!!! & they get about 35 - 40 mpg!!!! Still only a toy & not very practical.......... But I want one!!!

You are a good person to ask then...
How does the ownership of an elise compare to the rex?? Handling, fun etc as mine is only for weekend fun anyway was looking at poss elise / vx220 turbo
Cheers
Eddie
The driving experience, in my opinion, is second to none.
Pros:
The handling is phenominal, they feel so planted.
Loads of fun to drive
Convertible, sort of :)
Fuel Economy - you\'ll get 45+ on a run, 35 around town.
Very slow depreciation
Cons:
Inside is very basic, no CL, EW and most dont have aircon (weight saving)
Uncomfortable on long runs
The \'roof\' isnt exactly quick to fit, rediculous on the S1.
Hit a rabbit and you\'ll need a whole new front clam - its all one piece and expensive. Sometime the Fibreglass can be repaired though.
Most have a Rover K series engine :eek
Servicing costs
Weighed up against the rex IMHO I dont think they look as nice. I get twice the head turning ability in the Rex than I did in the Elise. They are not as quick in a straight line as a RX (unless you go for 111r). But on a track / on the twisties a Rex would have trouble shaking off the base model with 125bhp. As for storage the S2 has a surprising amount of room in the boot. The opening is small but it continues inside the rear wings. You can easily get a couple of sports bags inside the rear wing area and still have room in the boot for other stuff. I drove over to France/Manaco/Italy in mine, with all my luggage (and my girlfriends) and a tent!! No probs :wiggle
At the end of the day they are a road going track car, there are no creature comforts, the ride is harsh and they are noisey - for me that is perfect :) I\'d have one now but I can\'t afford to get the S2 at the moment (not keen on the S1) Next year i\'m thinking I may sell the Rex, sell the diesel I use for work and get another S2.
Here is a pic of mine:

You didn\'t half get hot though didn\'t you mate :cool
That thing of yours just gripped. Watching it from behind there was no roll whatsoever, lane changes just happened faster than everyone expected.
Top end needed a bit of looking at though :D
AL.
I keep forgetting you are on here now!! I havent had a trip that was that much fun since, some real fond memories:Thumbs-up Some of the motorway runs wre interesting - 120mph + for hours at a time - my poor Elise was sitting at 5000rpm in the red!! The exhausts were white! If these things werent so juicy I\'d suggest a MRC one!! What did we clock, 2000 miles? Thats 10+ fill ups in the rex! :eek
Do you go to many meets? It would be great to catch up some time.
(sorry for the thread highjack)

My mate has the 111r...needless to say I\'m not racing him :rollin I\'m only a poor standard FD.
No I wouldnt. Standard what does that work out? 300bhp per tonne? And with that sort of handling..... Thats the one I\'d want, but i\'m dreaming a bit there, need to add to my property portfolio before spending that sort of cash on a car :rollin

The Elise is not very quick a mate at the gym has one needless to say had a bit of fun on the way home and the next day he wanted to know where i had gone as 1 min was there the next me gone :Thumbs-up
Depends what model he has. The base model, ie 125bhp, isnt that fast in a straight line. 0-60 = 5 something seconds, and they die off over 80ish. Go up against one on the track, with a driver who knows what he is doing and most RX\'s would have a job keeping up. If you raced him down a dual carriageway then that doesnt surprise me.
If he has a 111r then he doesnt know how to drive it - put me in one around a track or twisties and i\'ll bet pink slips with you!! ;)
Even in a straight line I would of thought only the relatively highly modded RX\'s could see a 111r off.

Err not quite :evillaugh :evillaugh :evillaugh
We\'ve got one and it\'s a rapid little motor but it wouldn\'t keep up with our rex unless we were winding around some country roads!!
I will keep up on first gear but that\'s about it, but will beat anything around bends and corners as Lotus makes the best chassis for road handling:burnout

Thats the one! took off like a rocket! sounded like a F1 car, fantastic in fact,
Well i don\'t feel so bad now, but i am starting at the bottom and thrashed an old Fiesta and a viva today, i\'ll work my way up from there! also will try this Red-line thingy, see if that helps, think i\'m getting too old for all this excitement,
Bob
ah dont worry.....get him on the strip and you\'ll be fine....
;)
I went to a race meet the other night an there was an elise 111R cleaning up, I had one play with a 200sx, then asked the elise driver if he wanted a run an he said no lol, mines not massively modded either.
Mark
what a fairy!!!!
Funy, thats what I thought lmao:3gears-rh
i blew away an elise a month or so back. pulled onto the A41 at about 60 mph (dual carriage way near hemel) and he followed me then made a dart up to my arse to over take. my car was a little cold so i didnt really want to do it but i kind of had to, lol. quickly pulled in front of him before he had time to get passed and preceeded to say good bye. when i hit 145mph he was quite a way back and he pulled back in to cruise on the inside lane......................................funny that. he didnt try again. i think there is a fair few pretty boys out the driving them, that need to be put into there place ocasionally.
i have driven one and i do love them, in fact i will post a pic of my bros later (ex-elise anyway RIP). he kind of managed to slit it into two around a tree. Knob, i know.
These things are not really designed for straight line speed, so blowing away one on a dual carriageway, especially if you are already at 60mph, is not a big deal. If it was a base model 125bhp job I could have given him a run for his money in my diesel!! They only have a top speed of 125mph, and although the acceleration is impressive, after 80mph there isnt much left. It would be more impressive if you said you got away from him around some twisties, or on a track though!!
I didnt ever used to play with people on dual carriageways in mine, unless it was around MK threw the roudabouts. Mine was just the 125bhp one, but I\'d loose Boxter S\'s, M3\'s, 911\'s etc over them roundabouts. I wouldnt be able to keep up with me in an Elise on the cornering.
I\'m thinking about getting a S1 to replace my diesel. Use it for work but track days as well. I\'ll look forward to showing you \'doubters\' what it can do on a track day :p
One thing for sure though, they dont look as good as the FD!

fair point, i dont doubt that. when i did my ARD\'s race licence at silverstone, i had to give the an S2 rock all round the short national circuit and i know they are sweet. i was even thinking about one until i figured out i could insure a rex.
my point is if the owner of one thinks/thought that he could have a go on the dual carriage way against a rex he needed putting in his place. he should known better not to take on a rx 7 he was only young and trying to be cocky. In a way like me i guess but i knew i could do him on the dual carriage way so i did. :burnout
but respect to the elise.
i said i would post them. the impact was as you can see right on the filler cap, so on the bulk head between cockpit and engine. one of the only places that the impact could have been that wouldnt have really hurt my bro. there aint too much to the cars.
sorry to scare anyone, if these pics do. he just spun it and hit a tree, and thats only a little tree as well. as they say "trees dont move".
he dosen\'t remember it he was unconcious for about 5 mins we think. when he came round he tried to move it off the road hmmm...... the gear box was on the ground and the wind screen was cracked. roofed caved in a little.
do you think he hit his head?
